Sad to see this switch. I hope it works to the benefit of all.

St. John's has a beautiful facility but nowhere near 3000 capacity like H.I.P. at Fitton Field. I do like the message HC is sending that they are strictly controlling the campus and will continue to do so during the academic year. Tight management and strict controls will be necessary to pull off residential learning safely this fall.
The Braveheart's desire to return to H.I.P. at Fitton next season (is Hanover Insurance still paying a sponsorship fee for the naming rights and if so who are they paying it to?) shows what a gem that park is. Located in the second largest city in New England in a safe area right off the interstate with parking, and built for about one half of one percent of the cost of the white elephant down the street. Holy Cross owns it outright and they didn't even have to pay that one half of one percent to build it.

Originally the Tornadoes did all the renovations to the ball park in exchange for free use of it then turned around and gave naming rights to Hanover so effectively Hanover paid for the renovations. Hanover's naming rights might last a long time with no fee because of all the money they paid up front. If an annual fee is being paid, I would assume it is being paid to the Bravehearts. The Bravehearts have some sort of radio, a PA guy talking, printed tickets and programs - all saying Hanover. They could just as easily call it Non Alum Dave Park at Fitton Field on all their stuff without some contractual obligation to do otherwise. Free use of the field (for what I think was 25 years) was an asset of the Tornadoes that needed to be disposed of by the bankruptcy court to pay off the creditors. I have always assumed the Bravehearts got that asset. The article sounds like they use the field as a gift from HC. If that is the case, HC could be getting something from Hanover and force the Bravehearts to use that name in their marketing

Why should using the baseball field/stadium/parking lot have mattered that much if no other facilities on campus are used? Especially if spectators were not part of the mix.
The virus exists on surfaces not very long, that's been proven.

I like HC getting disciplined with a "closed means closed" approach. Rules will have to be enforced strictly to avoid an outbreak this fall. You can't count on 18-22 year olds to voluntarily comply 24-7.

Have you seen the lawn on the Hoval recently? Check it out here. www.holycross.edu/webcams/hoganNormally a lush green this time of year, it is decidedly in hibernation. I suspect the grounds crews and field maintenance crews are at a skeleton level and while I suspect that the Fitton football & baseball fields are being watered, the availability of a crew to maintain the field in the best playing condition possible may have at least been a factor, particularly if the Bravehearts are not paying anything to use it and HC is trying to cut costs.

Most athletic fields in Mass. are going to be better to play on in the next few years as they're getting a good rest.

No shade and a lack of rain has many grassy areas in MA looking like this.

Drove by Fitton on way to a Dr. Appt. Today. Baseball field is green and a worker on a riding mower was cutting the grass. I did not see the grass portion of the football field but it must be green also.

Not many flowers to be seen, especially in front of the O'Kane porch. Both support the hypothesis

I would say the Futures League is in trouble everywhere. The league has poor baseball played in high school or former minor league stadiums (Brockton, Worcester, Nashua).

The American Legion should take it over and add two years to the age cap. The Bravehearts new approach will relegate baseball to a side show at a circus. Relief pitchers won't walk in from the bullpen, they'll be shot out of a cannon.
