This must be fake news. I read on Crossports that big stars won't go to HBCUs.

Maker's VC page. As noted above, a 5-star recruit, whose final four consisted of Kentucky, UCLA, Memphis . . . and Howard. www.verbalcommits.com/players/makur-makerI'm guessing this is a decision that is not primarily about basketball, and may be indicative of future change on the recruiting scene. Love it.

A great get for Coach Kenny Blakeney, a Duke grad.

He is a local player out of DeMatha, prior to Duke, and has strong ties to the community and metro high school coaches

With this star on the team Howard’s first years in the Ivy League should be most successful 😋

Thon Maker's brother. Thon is all of 23 years old, has been the NBA since age 19. If his brother's that good, he won't be at Howard very long.

If he's that good, he wouldn't have been at Kentucky very long.
Good for Howard.

This was my post, for anyone wondering. Thanks for being classy enough to make it anonymous. Huge get for Howard. HBCU have produced some serviceable NBA players but rarely superstars in more recent times -- Lindsey Hunter and Kyle O'Quinn come to mind. Wheres ACTP -- he should be there to quote me in the other thread and simply type "WRONG".

Shades of Adonal Foyle at Colgate....? Or that other NBA pro stud who went to Navy? Albeit different circumstances in the Howard choice. In any event, I like it when any great player goes low, mid or high mid major and turns his back on the power conferences.

Howard is low major, as are Colgate and Navy

In any event, I like it when any great player goes mid major and turns his back on the power conferences. I was JUST thinking the same thing wrt Foyle. He turned down Duke for Colgate. Starred at Hamilton HS and both parents were professors at 'Gate. According to an excerpt in "The Last Amateurs", he cited academics as the reason for Duke not being good enough. Coach K was miffed by this comment. David Robinson grew about 8 inches while he was at the Naval Academy.

Great line in that article, might apply to a school we know.... . “When you walk out the door and you turn your back, you’re not thinking clearly about the big picture and what Purdue can do for you.”

According to nbadraft.net, Maker is not projected first round right now for 2021. Might be good news for Howard if season cancelled this year. Then you'd have Maker and the Purdue transfer on court together in 2021-2022.

Howard provided Bellarmine. a Louisville school moving up to D-1 this year, with its first D-1 victory , losing 84-63. Howard appears to have a woeful team this year. Maybe Makur can return to action and provide a boost

Howard has been woeful since Milan, playing point guard, led the team to its last appearance in the NCAA tournament, in 1991-92. In the ensuing 28 years, the Bison have managed one winning season, and lost 20+ games twenty times.

Thought "BEL" was Belmont, a good team; and "QUN" was Quinnipiac, not particularly good but a hell of a lot better than Queens University.
Shoulda noticed that there was a BELM and a BEL, considering Howard played both of them. Ironically, they lost to Bellarmine by more than they lost to Belmont.

To be fair, D2 Queens University (the one in Charlotte, not Queens, NY) also almost beat George Mason in the same tournament. Lost to them by a point. Most MEAC teams wouldn't sniff the jockstrap of the Divison II Top 25 so not that surprising.

Given who HC lost to last year there shouldn't be any bashing of bad losses at any other school.

Howard also lost to D2 Queens University. Queens looked decent against Howard and Mason-athletic anc fundamentally sound
