Perfectly appropriate for these eleven schools. I still hope Holy Cross can conduct a safe season.

It is appropriate for these elite D-3 colleges because they chose this way to proceed and I respect their judgement and the quality of the schools. I didn't pass judgement on whether it is appropriate for Holy Cross to cancel fall sports or to participate under safety protocols. I hope HC can participate in fall sports safely but will respect any decision that is made and will know it is a good one because the administration has all the facts at their disposal and are sharp, responsible leaders.
D-1 sports with athletic scholarships and larger staffs and facilities like Crusader football represent a larger investment by the school than D-3 schools invest. If a larger investment of both money and institutional attention and resources is needed to accomplish a safe fall sports season it may not make sense for a D-3 school to make the investment, while it may make sense for a D-1 school because more has been invested already in staff, scholarships and facilities.
My other thought, specifically about these "Little Ivies" is I don't think they rely as much on offering D-3 athletics as a recruiting tool as HC does in offering D-1 athletics, so more effort to participate in fall sports at HC makes sense. The (big) Ivies are somewhat similar. I.L. schools could drop sports for a decade and still be flooded with top quality applicants. In the final analysis safety trumps all and I don't know exactly where the line should be drawn between participation with strong safety protocols and dropping fall sports, but I have confidence that ADMB and the rest of the HC administration can make a responsible decision.
