Looks like players have been told that they will be reporting to campus on January 4, which bodes well that a spring season announcement by the PL will follow shortly.

Do we think fans will be able to be in the stands if there is a spring football season

In my opinion it will just be family members.
I did see something from Charleston Southern indicating they would allow 1,500 people into their stadium which includes staff.

In the Dan Shaughnessy article in the Globe on women's rowing, see the Other Sports column, Shaughnessy reports that the two most seriously injured rowers, Hannah Strom and Anne Comcowich, will be living off-campus for the spring semester. Doing so will allow Hannah's mother to visit her. If mothers of students still recuperating from severe injuries are not being allowed on campus because of COVID restrictions, it is unlikely that fans will be allowed at sporting events.
That may change if the pandemic eases substantially. But remember, the Patriots were not allowed to have fans in the stands this fall, a time when the number of new infections in Massachusetts was quite low compared to now. So I think it is very unlikely that the Commonwealth will allow fans at college games this spring, even at outdoor venues, no matter what the college may wish to do.
And it may be, depending on the schedule dates, that unplayable conditions on Fitton Field will force HC to move a home game to Fr. K field, or to another field with an artificial surface. If this eventuality occurs, the idea of fans in the stands becomes even more unlikely.

I think you will see some fans. It's outdoors and by then more people will be vaccinated. People don't have to go if they don't feel safe. I think you can have a football game with a couple thousand fans spread out. With masks. The south is doing it with tens of thousands of fans.

Massachusetts hasn't been allowing parents/families into games at all this fall/winter. As a resident of MA, I can tell you that the COVID restrictions are for the most part arbitrary and draconian. The Governor has zero backbone and has consistently been a follower rather than a leader who thinks for himself. Having a small number of fans at an outdoor football game (even if limited to family members of players and a small number of others) could easily be implemented with more than sufficient COVID measures in place, but that requires foresight and most importantly, common sense, which is extremely lacking from any of our politicians.

Fitton is too small. There's not enough room to social distance.

You could take half the home games of 2019 and put the same number of fans in the stands safely.

Don't forget, you can use the endzone seats since they removed the tarp.

One way to boost attendance safely- any vaccinated essential worker should be let in for free.

BC had zero people at football this fall outside of some select photographers and everything was done on zoom for interviews. BC is limiting even more the access for winter sports. UConn on the other hand is allowing families into hoops games but only their staff photographer in. I would know since Vermont wanted me down there for a game and we got a straight up no.

Anthony Fauci Issues Christmas COVID-19 Warning: 'We Have A Big Problem”
"This cannot be business as usual this Christmas because we’re already in a very difficult situation," said the nation's top infectious diseases expert.
Since Dr. Fauci said “we have have a big problem”, I have no problem staying at home and watching HC sports, if and when played next year, via ESPN+, NESN or other broadcast media.
I will miss being able to converse with friends while in the stands, however, we have all had many disappointments in life. Better to be disappointed for another year, than being disappointed for eternity.

hc2020 - any further word on this? I have actually heard that the kids are supposed to report on 1/4. However, still nothing in the way of a formal announcement from the Patriot League.

Saw this on the Twitter yesterday:
Out of 127 FCS teams: -100 plan to play -20 have opted out -7-team Patriot League hasn't announced spring plans yet

I said on a different thread, assuming a schedule timeline basically the same as normal baseball, parents will be in attendance for senior day. The current thinking is by the end of June pretty much anyone who wants a vaccine will have one. Not a stretch to think some limited fans at an outdoor venue 1/2 through vaccine phase 3 is do-able. MA is stricter than many states, but if places can have 25 percent capacity right now, MA should be able to think of something similar when half the population is vaccinated

This provides insight regarding the PL hesitation in announcing the schedule. Maybe only a two or four game season against Colgate and Fordham with no champion declared.

Better to be disappointed for another year, than being disappointed for eternity. I had CNN on in the background earlier this evening and I thought I heard that one in 214 Americans got infected last week. I thought I must have heard incorrectly but doing quick Math in my head that if a million people test positive in a week that is one in 350 Americans, so perhaps I didn't misunderstand. In any case the country is on fire and it's older folks who will pay the price if the spread continues unabated, so I am all for restrictions for non essential recreation until everyone has had access to vaccination.
