What's the rationale between playing in neutral stadiums and having BOTH teams travel to every game?
I'm sure there's a good reason but what makes it safer than playing the games on campus, with only the away team traveling each week?

The proposed schedule will begin on January 16, 2021. All the sites for competition are climate controlled vs being outdoors.
A latitude of 38.9897 N, College Park Md, or higher as is the case for Penn State, 40.7934 N,Rutgers, 40.4862 N Northwestern, 42.8781 N, Michigan, 42.2808 N, is difficult to play in an outdoor venue. The number of fans will be limited at best guesstimate.

Oops, of course. I kind of forgot about that thing where it snows a lot in the midwest during wintertime.

True. I have attended Lacrosse games in February just after a snowstorm on Fr.K field and other venues. My toes were frozen until I retreated to the Hart. Still remembering the game a couple of years ago when HC played Vermont.
You would have to ask Kevin Warren, commissioner of the BIG, what has driven their intent on having the games only in indoor venues. More than likely, it leads to Telecast executives wanting to control all aspects to ensure the games will be played in an environment that will favorable. P5 football is all about the 💰💵 🤑. Best to eliminate an element of risk with a January or February blizzard and a whiteout that would interfere with viewing the game.
With only essential personnel in attendance, the execs want a comfortable environment.

University of Alabama reports 566 cases in the week since school opened for the fall semester. Infection count includes students, faculty, staff. The mayor of Tuscaloosa, school officials, the AD, and at least one football player went ballistic on seeing scenes of students crowding bars, unmasked, the weekend before last.

Roll Tide There have been other instances of parties happening that have led to potential COVID clusters at Syracuse, UConn, Iowa, etc. etc. I thought I was bulletproof at 18. I think we all did at that age. What's happening with these off-campus parties after kids are coming back is unfortunate but also makes a lot of sense. I didn't make the best decisions when I was 18-22. Sadly, these instances were entirely predictable (and they were predicted by some).

Just threw out the names (or old names, in the case of Skydome) in the proximity of any Big 10 college. Was not taking into account any travel limitations or the like.
Given the limited choices (realistically, you are talking about Minneapolis and Indianapolis; w/Syracuse kind of a longshot; and St. Louis an even bigger longshot)....lots of double and triple headers!

If both schools are going to travel to play at a neutral indoor northern location, wouldn't it be safer to have both teams travel to a neutral outdoor southern location? "Outdoors is always better than indoors," -the second most accomplished member of the Holy Cross class of 1962 (behind Sarasota)

not directly related but the dept of public health in Ct. and the state athletic body announced today that 'there will be no 11 on 11 h.s. football this fall' - surprisingly they did say '7 on 7 football would be permitted' but very few schools will adapt to that model, imo.

7 on 7 as in flag...or 7 on 7 tackle?
Understand the rationale behind not playing tackle football, let's not debate that here, pro or con.
Cannot believe anyone intelligent enough to be in charge of anything believes that (a) it's of significant health benefit to allow 14 players on a football field but not 22; and (b) one can seamlessly switch from 11 on 11 to 7 on 7 at the flip of a switch.

Big10 announced this morning it would resume football, with first games on Oct 23. While doubtlessly cloaked in the language of 'rapid testing' this became inevitable as other major colleges demonstrated the data and science behind healthy and closely monitored college athletes and participation in outdoor sports such as football.

I agree that parent and tv pressure for the season to be played has a lot to do with this. I hope it works out for all parties (certainly the players) but I believe the Power 5 will regret this decision.

The BIG have sold their souls. History and Revelation has warned of a decision based only for money. Sold their souls? That money funds a lot of things on campuses that don't use a ball. There have been no major disruption of football so far and they are testing daily. What more do you want? Right now we are at a point that if you take precautions and be smart you can live your life. If you feel otherwise, stay home and let everyone else move on. Can't figure out what is wrong with that.

The Big 10 return to fall football can be seen as the triumph of science and data Yes, there are powerful forces and considerations at play on either side of the debate (emotion, politics, safety, inertia, tradition, money, risk, fandom, etc.) but the stubborn little facts regarding college athletes and Covid mortality eventually won the day.
