This reminds me of my dealings with Fairfield when my son went there. We had saved some money when he was young to try to pay part of his college tuition. Because of that, every time we applied for a no interest loan we were denied. Then, in his senior year, we were told he could borrow $500. OK, that could cover books and some misc. expenses. Before we got any of the $500 the loan was put on hold. We were told that they found a bank account in our son's name and they wanted to be shown exactly where that money had gone before they would reinstate the loan. I personally wrote a note telling them. that every penny of that account went to THEM to pay part of our son's junior year tuition. I did point our their error since I said I would no longer contribute to Fairfield in any amount...ever. My son has done the same - actually giving more to some HC fundraisers than any at Fairfield. I guess saving that interest free loan saved them a few dollars and has cost the college at least several thousand dollars which should have been sent to them. Smart move, Stags!

You may recall, like you, I have a son who graduated from Fairfield (2 years behind his Holy Cross brother).
Fairfield was much more generous with their grant for him than HC was for my other son. They just seemed more attuned to our financial situation than HC, despite HC's "meeting our financial needs" mantra. For 2 years, we had 2 sons in private colleges. Despite the added financial burden of having a second educational expense, Fairfield seemed to recognize that and Holy Cross didn't.
While I still give much more to HC than FU, I do make a donation every year to the Stags.
So, my mixed feelings are that I sympathize and understand your feelings but I didn't have the same experience.

Perhaps they learned from their experience with me. I am glad your experience was a better one.
