Congratulations to Doug, IIRC he’s been quite active in the Minneapolis St Paul community while leading Ecolab thru tremendous growth over the last 15 years or so.
But, whenever I hear the Mayo Clinic I can’t help but think of this ...

Wouldn't it be nice to have him construct the "Eco-Lab" Ice Palace at College of the Holy Cross. That would get HC into HE!!

The first rink to use bacteria and not electricity to freeze the ice.🙂
I always thought the "Polar Igloo" would be a natural for next door neighbor Polar Beverages to choose if it purchased naming rights to the Hart Center hockey arena. I recall a Polar advertising banner in the Hart Center basketball arena during the Willard years, which encouraged my thinking. However, HC went with Pepsi as their official soft drink sponsor and Polar bought the naming rights to Polar Park.
I don't know how long the WooSox will last, but I suspect Holy Cross will be in Worcester longer.

Exactly.......That is what we need, a title sponsor to get things rolling. We have plenty of Alum that could certainly get the ball rolling if interested in hockey. How about the "Marvin Windows Ice Pavillion" (Paul Marvin is an Alum and like Doug Baker a hockey Alum). Paul was also involved with the beginnings of Womens Hockey.
This would be a perfect project for Frank Vellaccio, if he was still employed. He was by far the best fundraiser, especially for Athletics.

How about a Solar Company as sponsor who could put solar panels on the roof and advertise that finally the sun isn't melting the ice and shortening the skating season, but now it is keeping the ice frozen all year long?
It wouldn't have to be the primary naming sponsor to make that advertising pay off. However, when I attended a football game a couple of years ago and parked near the Hart Center and walked all the way down to Fitton (and all the way back up, oof) I didn't notice any solar panels on rooftops even though HC has been lauded for it's environmental practices. I chatted with a fellow who works at HC who said the college did not want to spoil the sight lines of it's classic architecture.

I am sure there are spots on campus that they can construct a mini-solar farm. ‘45 can provide consulting services - in exchange for a couple of free season football passes and a baseball field parking pass in perpetuity. P.S. And a letter of apology!

The Jo, would have been an ideal location for a solar array, facing both east and west, with a new energy efficient building.

Holy Name High School is a mile or so away as the crow flies (hopefully not into a large blade) and built a towering wind turbine 15 or 20 years ago to provide most of the electricity for their campus. I always thought it funny that a (relatively) politically conservative and cash strapped Diocesan high school would be so environmentally progressive before a liberal arts college with deep pockets. However, it could be that HC does not have the needed ground clearance to protect against a turbine blade falling off, which I think is required.

HC's done a wee bit better financially; those guys had to merge. Isn't it St. Paul now, the result of the merger with St. Peter-Marian? Too bad they got dealt such a crappy hand for their initial year.

Yes St. Peter Marian could not say goodbye to their building in proper fashion and the new classmates in the surviving building won't even be able to see each others faces behind the masks.
