Several WNBA teams are only carrying 11 players due to salary cap reasons. OK, that makes sense. I was assuming it was a budget issue because perhaps WNBA teams aren't as profitable as male pro teams. It's a little surprising the players' union hasn't insisted that teams not be able to meet the salary cap by reducing the work force.

Lauren's chances of making the team improved considerably. Angel McCourtray is out for the season with an ACL tear.

At least as of a few years ago, the WNBA was losing money every year and subsidized by the NBA. Doesn’t give the union much leverage to insist on anything.

In the more recent game, she played 4 minutes, 9th most, 0 points, 1 steal 8 players got double figure minutes. 12 played. Mccaughtry was hurt after 3 minutes Game ended 85-85 ( no typo)

I hate to say it but getting 4 minutes in an exhibition in the last week of camp does not bode well.

Well, the 11th and 12th ( presumably) players received fewer.minutes.

Lauren is no longer listed on the Vegas roster, so I suspect she was waived.

I just read on the WNBA news site that Lauren was waived on May 11, 2021.

I hope she can find a new "home" quickly.

It's clear she had a very good camp and her agent should be promoting her to other teams that might have a late injury or defection - too bad the WNBA business model keeps the roster size low in order that they can pay the top players good salaries (that they deserve). I don't think their tv ratings are going to improve much which would drive their revenues, and avoid 11 person rosters.

curious that as of today their roster shows 11 players 'including McCaughtry' which means there's still a roster spot open, if they choose to fill it aces.wnba.com/roster/

A lot of teams are going with 11 players this year due to a salary cap. The good news is that Lauren was the last one to be waived, so she must have performed very well in training camp.

Perhaps she was advised to "stay close to your phone" not that anyone is ever far from their phone these days.

From last week - not surprising as the WNBA has short rosters and very little chance for someone like Lauren - hopefully she gets a more lucrative contract if she opts to return to Europe next fall. Over the past 25 years, 42% of WNBA draftees never made a WNBA roster at any time during their career. As I understand it, in more recent years the number now exceeds 50%. Tough competition.

I knew it was tough, but had no idea it was that hard for draftees to make a team. Thanks for that insight, bison. Europe ball is looking better for Lauren.
