Looking at his clips, he reminds me of Calvin Murphy of Niagara. Similar style, speed and leaping ability. (CM Trivia - Murphy did not get a basketball scholarship to attend Niagra. What was his scholarship for and how did he meet that commitment?) baton twirling?

We have a winner. Calvin put-on a demonstration each year at halftime of a Niagara game. He wanted to go to the Cross and would have, but grades were a problem. Jack told a story of speaking to Calvin about this and asked him, "How are you with the college boards?" Calvin replied, "No problem. Just like the high school boards. I get right up ov er the rim." That was when Jack said that he knew Calvin would not be coming to Worcester. Perhaps we can think of Luck as Calvin Murphy with good grades?

Baton twirling at the Buffalo Bills football games Luc seems like a good low major player.with solid athleticism.. Calvin Murphy was a great high Major College All American and top NBA player with freakish athleticism.

Fact book says Tom Nelson, his coach, played in 97-98-99. Did he play much? Two of those years Raynor was the coach, the third year was RW. Long way of me saying I don't remember the guy at all. Then again, I've done my best to forget those years; IMHO only last year was as bad as those years. nelson was a teammate and friend. he was a slightly built point guard from los angeles, who iirc prepped somewhere in new england prior to hc. he could handle the ball and was a pure pass-first point, but contributed very little to the program (no offense, coming from one who contributed even less!) outside of practice and jv hoops. i was not surprised to see he entered coaching as he knew the game and was a really smart player. here's to hoping nelson's best contributions to hc hoops lie ahead in guiding one of his players (luc) to hc!

5'10'' + head against 10' rim = 50' vertical? Nelson is putting together a very dynamic collection of backcourt players.

Lots of excitement here. I'll wait 'til he's wearing a purple uniform and actually plays against D-I competition before I anoint him the next coming of Calvin Murphy.
We need to curb our enthusiasm (apologies to Larry David) about these recruits, IMHO. Duke and UNC weren't knocking on his door.
That said, I wish him all the best and that he lives up to Crossports' expectations. We could really use it after the dumpster fire of last season.

I'm guessing the word commitment indicates ROTC and perhaps he had the same Reserves/National Guard arrangement that MLB players used to have during the Draft era. I'm guessing the commitment was not to the Vincentian Order, but that would make it a more unique story if it was.

Oops, answered the quiz question before I realized there was a page two with the correct answer that makes it an even better story.😊 Never would have guessed baton twirling.

I got a bit more ambitious and looked up his stats- the most playing time he had was as a junior averaging 7.9 min a game in 16 games. I did make a mistake on the years- his 3 years on the team were all under Raynor. Graduated before Ralph took over.

Have you seen him play or is this statement based only on the highlight tapes ? Didn't mean for my comment to be taken seriously. I know zero about the young man or his game. I simply chuckled at the video, which looked to me like playground ball, all one on one, nary a pass or even a thought of a pass. Acknowledging he can surely run and jump, I hope/assume his game is much more than what the video shows.

I well remember wondering upon a summer pick up game years ago . . . Calvin Murphy leading one team, Bob Lanier the other. Great memory.

I remember hearing (may be apocryphal) that Calvin wore 9 pairs of socks to have sufficient cushioning when landed after jumping. Does seem far-fetched.....

Does his play remind you of any other HC players? The dunks are amazing for a 5-10 guy I thought of Jave right away...

Might be wise to pump the brakes on the Torey and Jave comparos until he has a handful of games under his belt.

Does ANYONE on this highlight video play defense? Not so much on that reel. Here's a longer one where some guys are trying very hard to defend him - but he is lightning-quick off his dribble, driving right or left, very creative on his finishes. Defenders also have to constantly respect his ability to score from deep.
A handful of assists to view, too. We all listened Nelson talk ad nauseam last year about his insistence on unselfishness, so I'm pretty sure that Kyrell will dish plenty - or he won't play.

Another brief clip from last year's game vs. Cushing, one of the premier programs in New England and a good defensive team. Kyrell's highlights start about 30 seconds in. The Cushing player (#4 in white) trying to guard him is Bensley Joseph. He's ranked #2 among 2021s in New England, and a 4-star recruit who has committed to the University of Miami.

I would like to see more clips of Kyrell on defense. Two defensive plays above showed quick hands to get steals. He could provide dominant Ball pressure. On the recent tape Torey spoke of the battles he and Jave had in practice. It could be the same with RJ and Kyrell.
