"Coach Wooden and Me'' will be published next June and will combine personal memories and lessons learned"
I assume that the lessons learned are not about basketball. I think Wooden was one of those truly great coaches who not only taught the sport, but helped mold boys into responsible men

Abdul-Jabbar's other books include the memoir ''Giant Steps'' and the novel ''Mycroft Holmes.'' Is Jabbar a member of the Doyle family?

Trivia question: what was the first thing that Coach Wooden taught his players during the first practice of each season?

How to put on their socks correctly BINGO-- the first thing he taught the players was how to put on their socks and properly tie their sneakers so that he'd never lose a player to a blister. I wrote our division president's presentation for our national sales meeting a few years ago and we used the theme of "how do great sports champions repeat their success?". I used the Wooden socks and sneakers story (good video available) to highlight the importance of mastering the fundamentals --in sports or in sales. I did not know that Kareem was a Sherlock fan--the Jeremy Brett Holmes series is some of the best TV ever produced.

I had the distinct pleasure at conversing with him for some time after the Memorial service for Jack Donohue in NYC, at which he gave a memorable eulogy without mentioning hoops. A warm, thoughtful gentleman

well it would have been nice if he said one nice thing about Jack when he was alive. The only repeated (often) the one taken to be racist insult that Jack uttered.
