The lead donor (for $80 million), Harold Alfond, is discussed in the Forbes article. Alfond also gave UMaine $90 million for athletics earlier this month. __________________
The Harold Alfond Athletic Center includes the 2,500-seat Wadsworth Gymnasium, the Alfond Ice Rink, and the field house, which encloses an eighth-mile track, four tennis courts, a batting cage, a climbing wall, and enough space for team practices. The complex includes a 25-yard by 25-meter swimming pool, five international-size squash courts, the Boulos Family Fitness Center, the Carl E. Nelson Physical Therapy Center, saunas, and studio space for yoga and group exercise.

Alfond is deceased. The donor is the foundation that bears his name.

Smart move by Mr. Alfond or his heirs to take Berkshire-Hathaway stock rather than cash. Great Forbes article. Thanks for sharing. To me, this shows the importance of facilities in attracting quality students in today's competitive environment. Colby seems like a school on an upward trajectory.

Wonder if the Boulos mentioned as a major donor is related to Jim Boulos, an attorney in that state, HC class of 73.

Here is the hockey rink in the facility. It is nicer than Holy Cross

It has chairbacks and probably doesn't have that unique locker room smell yet, but the seating capacity looks similar to the Hart.

The Hart Center Rink is listed as holding1600 "screaming meemies" as Bob Fouracre used to call raucus fans although I do not know why he used that expression.
A trivia question: Did Bob Fouracre ever announce a Holy Cross Hockey game, or any hockey game? I can't recall any. Dick Lutsk called the last HC NCAA hockey appearance. He interviewed Father McFarland and asked him if he would love to have a beautiful arena like the one they were in, on the Holy Cross campus. Father replied dryly: "Do you know anyone with $40 million?"

You'd think there was a possibility given that Lutsk and Fouracre were fairly interchangeable in that time frame; and I don't think that HC hockey game was a radio one-off. But, no, I don't remember one. The year after HC won that game vs the Gophers; there was a Friday night where the basketball and hockey teams (probably during winter break) were playing concurrently. I came for the hoop game but snuck in the Ryan Room and watched a little hockey too. I kept thinking "If those Minnesota folks had any clue that they lost to a school that plays in a facility like this, it would drive them crazy".

RIT went even farther than Holy Cross making the Frozen Four in 2010 playing in this building
