Must one have a FaceBook account in order to participate in the Re-watch? This one is of particular interest for me as I was sitting in Fitton on the cold, cloudy Nov. day.

They should do a rewatch of the first quarter of the last BC game at Fitton. Then turn it off. Was a fun half hour or so.

I like the idea of these rewatches. But I am going to complain about them. Holy Cross has files of all their football games. Yet, they are only playing the ones back that anybody can watch because they are already on YouTube!

How about HC vs Villanova in ‘87 on espn. I’ve asked about this game a few times and not sure it’s available on YouTube - that one I’d watch again with Wiley and Lockbaum in charge

I tuned in for the rewatch of the 2007 game against Harvard with Dom Randolph providing insight. It was an entertaining, worthwhile watch. It doesn't hurt they only show Crusader victories.

You mean, like those basketball recruiting highlight videos where every player looks like the next coming of Michael Jordan?

Great watching that video.
Fitton's got some deficiencies, for sure, but compare the stands, playing surface, scoreboard NOW to what was there THEN, and it's night and day. The goalposts were obsolete by 1977 and were there a few years more (an alum claimed he offered to pay for new ones and tptb refused).
And the fence was an accident waiting to happen.

Shocked at the small-ish crowd. Thought that game was always a sellout?

The enthusiasm for the program was pretty low.
The team in 1975 was 1-10 and a coaching change took place.
In 1976, BC won 59-6 and the team was 3-8.
The team in 1977 was 0-9 going into the UConn game, which they won.
Of course, we'd kill to have crowds of 14K (that day's total, IIRC) today.

Quick takeaways from watching: The O-line was fabulous that day...Smerlas and company pretty much neutralized. Steve Hunt was a beast at FB...Doherty (Daugherty?), Ewald and Columbo did a great job running the option that day. Mihalik"s interception was huge. Bob Morton came up big at WR that day....had forgotten that. Probably the smallest crowd in the BC-HC rivalry....probably reflective of the '76 team losing 59-6 and HC being 1-9. Still pissed that my parents went with friends and didn't take us kids to that game. Mr E and Geno did a fabulous job broadcasting that game. Hurt to hear how HC had beaten the Cuban National team 117-96 the night before and we were still a force in D1 hoop then.

I wish someone could find the tape of the Providence/HC basketball game at the Hartford Civic Center in 1977. Or the BC game in 1980-81 (the one right after the SI story about the point shaving scandal).

I recall reading somewhere a quote from Ron Perry Sr. (AD at that time) that they sold $5,000 worth of tickets at halftime. Back in those days, I believe the game was only on radio--WTAG. Although it was a cold day, I watched the entire game and slowly walked out of Fitton thinking I had seen something historic.

Yeah....that telecast and all Ch 27 football games then were tape-delayed and shown hours later that night.
The other key play was the mishandled kickoff after we went up 28-20....pretty much sealed the deal.
Would have liked to have the seen the actual ending of that game in the rewatch....the euphoria etc.

Any mention of late '70s games should include the 1978 victory over winless BC at Chestnut Hill. This game included a pick-six near the BC goal line, a BC field-goal attempt that was run back for a touchdown, and the break-up of last-second BC two-point conversion attempt that would have won the game for them. Apart from the game itself, one of my memories of that day was the sight of a frustrated BC player kicking his helmet from the center to field toward the sideline after the two-pointer failed.

Exactly....we had no business winning that game statistically...lot of intangibles had to fall our way which they thankfully did. The '80 game was a killah the other way...up 26-13 and probably a 1st down away from sealing victory....ended up losing 27-26. Say what you want about Wheelwright, but his teams (save for the '76 debacle) played BC pretty evenly in his tenure.

I was chatting with RP, Sr. at a reception/party in a very nice home a few blocks away from the BC stadium after the game and suggested to him that after winning two in a row over the Eagles, it was probably time to drop them from the schedule. I know we had two really poor records back to back, but what people remember is that each of those seasons ended with a W..

BC had perhaps its worst team ever that year - one site puts them at 138th of 138 D-1 teams (and they finished 0-11) in ‘78. We were pretty good (for a 70’s HC team) that year with our best record, 7-4, of the entire 70’s. As BC got slowly better the next three years or so we did keep it close while losing but in ‘82 BC (finishing ranked 25 or so) began walloping us in a fashion that continued until we wisely pulled the plug on the series. (Note: 1981, a 28-24 loss to BC, was Carter’s first year.)

If, if, if...could have beaten them 5 years in a row before they started killing us. I wonder if the 80 game would have kept Wheelwright employed? IIRC he was gone anyway, but you never know.
In 78, there was also an improbable goal line stand. BC had 2 or 3 cracks inside the 1 and couldn't put it in. Plus, one or two long runs by BC backs that ended in fumbles.
The pick six was a screen pass seemingly right to one of our defensive lineman; it was like the QB was saying "here, catch!" to him.

We were supposed to play BC today.
They’re up 21-7 at Clemson. Looks like they took the easy way out.

Wow, how much fun was that!! I just watched on YouTube. This era of HC Football was obscure to me, since I was deep in medical school and oblivious. This game was really fun to watch, The two scores we went for with 4th and goal at the one were epic! The interceptions! Peter Columbo was incredible. Brian Dougherty and Larry Ewald were immense with their running. I haven't seen many HC games where we had such a good running attack, and strong O line. Coach Neal Wheelwright seemed to have ice water in his veins with those calls to go for it at the goal line. And, to top it all off, a much younger "Mr Entertainment" seemed to have his real hair under that chapeau !
