Interested to hear Sawx fans’ thoughts I believe that he and Hinch fall into the “quickly rewarding cheats” category They were punished for 60 games.

Depends on your perspective.
The Red Sox will be better on the field. In all fairness, it will be difficult not to be better. Their top two pitchers didn't throw a single pitch in 2020. He only managed for one season (was only a bench coach for one season before that), but pushed all the right buttons. It's easy to be good with a loaded lineup, but 2018 was an insanely good team. We'll see how he does with less talent
The Sox aren't exactly sending the best message. Maybe baseball is really in to Christian forgiveness, Do your time and you're welcomed back with open arms. Baseball has always been pretty casual about on field cheating. Batter cork bats. Pitchers have been doctoring balls forever. If it's really egregious there's a short suspension. I remember Joe Niekro getting caught with a doctored balls and he had sandpaper with him on the mound. He got 10 days (which works out to one and maybe 2 starts for a pitcher). Hey Gaylord Perry made it into Cooperstown with a spitball. Due to public outcry, baseball finally got serious about steroids after finally banning it, but other than that, baseball has never done too much about on field cheating

Cora was good during his pennant winning first season of 2018, but the next year the Sox were awful and at his post game press conferences he reminded me of another Skipper because the Red Sox were always "turning the corner" and "rounding the turn" right up until they finished in last place.

Let's remember that if you turn the corner four timer, you can end up back where you started. (As a yankee fan, I must admit I am enjoying this.)

My bad. He was the manager in 2019
2019 was a disappointment, but far from last place. The Sox were kind of mediocre that year, but after the awesomeness of 2018, mediocre seemed like a last place disaster.
Sox finished in 3rd place in the AL East. 7th best record in the AL out of 15 teams.
I still think ignoring the generally lose attitude about cheating, this will be a positive hire. Any Sox improvement will be more about Sale and E-Rod than any manager

Cora was absolutely the best managerial choice for the Red Sox. He is highly popular with the players, particularly the young Latin players who are the core of the team, and it was pretty obvious that Roenicke was a placeholder on a throwaway year. Cora served his suspension, has been reinstated by the league, and is therefore eligible to return to work. Hell baseball allowed a convicted felon to own and run a team for decades.

I've lost a little off my fastball, but the enduring memory is of Cora seeming to be unable to comprehend the change from a season where everything broke the right way to one where it didn't. Maybe that experience will help him manage in adversity in the future. I would have gone with a fresh, unblemished face as the next manager, but we'll see what happens.
