Papelbon was the Red Sox Gronk.
His entrance song was "Shipping up to Boston."

Can anyone confirm that in the early 70's the HC Good Time Marching Band (a bit of a ragtag bunch at the time) once, during a home football game, paid tribute to the City of Worcester at halftime by forming a large zero in the middle of the field (and if this is true what music they played)?

The ragtag relaxed clothing style contrasted with uniformed high school bands and was symbolic of the anti-establishment spirit on college campuses at the time. Don't remember the big zero, but the band did have good humor.

I remember the band with great affection. Here’s a couple of examples of the wit: (1) forming an “empty Sugar Bowl” to focus attention on Boston college’s chances of getting a bowl game invitation; (2) playing the Chicago hit “25 or 6 to 4” to celebrate that the band had expanded from 25 or 6 to 40 members, (3) learning that the band had a number of non-playing members, I.e. friends of band musicians who agreed to march with the band and pretend to play instruments.

They did a show where the theme was "A big time college band would do this, and our little band will do instead...."
One of them was saying "A big time band might form the Liberty Bell, and our band will form the CRACK in the Liberty Bell"...and the band formed a crooked line.
Another BC dig was (and I can't remember what formation they went into) "and the band will now form an non-existent bowl bid!"

I do recall that, although I’m a bit hazy with details. I believe it was late 70s, and it was not appreciated. It was one of the many reasons which led to bringing in Bob Principe from my old high school in CT to direct the band. He was given direction to bring more class to the organization.

These posts confirm my memories of the HC band as irreverent but not mean. Some of the stuff they did still makes me laugh.

I remember one time they acknowledged that the other band was a better band, but the HC band were scrappy underdogs. As underdogs, they formed a broken nose and played the theme from Rocky (the original "Gonna Fly Now", not "Eye of the Tiger")
