Not college, but there is a Worcester County high school basketball tournament sponsored by Clark University that has been cancelled. Normally held in February it's a pretty big deal for smaller schools in the area. Another bad sports omen of events getting cancelled 3 months in advance.
This cancellation is not unprecedented. It was also cancelled one year because of WWII

Clark just went fully remote. At this point, I assume it's for the rest of the semester. I do not know what their second semester plan is

The Clark High School Tournament is the 3rd oldest HS tourney in the country...It is a great tourney, and having brought some qualifying teams to it while coaching, it is something the players look forward to..It is played on a college court, with all the amenities of a college game....Stats, press, TV, and large crowds...At this point, I don't think there will be a HS hoops season in Mass..One coach I play golf with said if there is a season, teams would play in pods,(12 games) with no post season play for a District and State Championship....

Larger crowds than Clark University games Not as big a deal in the era of AAU, but having no high school hoops could really mess up college recruiting

It will certainly hurt late developing players

The Clark tournament is for teams from the (originally) rural towns in Worcester County with Catholic schools and Worcester public schools not eligible. It traditionally is played during the February school vacation week. If the weather warms up and coincides with rain or melting snow at that time of year, the mud season can start early.
One coach who shall remain nameless took his team to the tourney and asked the bus driver to pull into the dirt parking lot of his tax preparer on the way so he could drop off his taxes. The heavy school bus got stuck in the muddy parking lot. They got the bus unstuck to get to Clark in time, but there would have been a lot of explaining to do if they hadn't.🙂

A lot of crazy things happen to high school teams and players, they are kids, 18 and younger...I had a player come to me on the bus to play in the Clark Tourney, he forgot his sneakers!...This was before cell phones were common...Luckily, my assistant was following the bus in his car and we were able to send him back to the school to retrieve the missing shoes!! I also had a player arrive at WPI for the District Final only to discover all he had in his bag was a pair of socks and an athletic supporter....Luckily his uniform arrived by neighbor a few minutes before tipoff!

Clark U was the last place I saw a basketball game in 2020, a week before everything got called off.
Made sure on a night where there was a decent crowd (probably 2/3 full) that I sat nowhere near anyone. The roof, which is a rather unique design, is low when you get away from the court and in the seating area; I remember thinking "this place is a germ factory if there ever was one".
Is the security good around that campus? Not exactly the garden spot of Worcester at least on one side of the school.
