It looks like within the next 4 weeks that at least two COVID-19 vaccines will be FDA approved and rolling out for the necessary 2 shot regime. The Army appears to have a logistics plan in place.
That said, as people smarter than I have said, "having a vaccine is one thing, getting people vaccinated is another." Polls have shown a significant number of people are either hesitant or dogmatically opposed to getting a COVID shot.
So, assuming two things: 1. The FDA approves the vaccines and 2. Dr. Fauci vouches for the vaccine's efficacy and safety
Would you take the vaccine?

My doctor has been selected multiple times as a "Top Doc in Rhode Island" by her peers as published annually in the "Rhode Island Monthly" magazine. She is exceptionally thorough as evidenced by the slew of diagnostic medical tests she's had me take from July through October this year. I trust her implicitly but she does not have the expertise that Tony Fauci has in this arena and if there was a disagreement on taking the vaccine, I'm going with Tony.
Somewhat moot point because I am sure that I will not be the first in line but will be behind our medical and first responder heroes and I would be first to give them all "headsies" before me.

Unless one has the ability and desire to keep isolating yourself (and your loved ones), yes! Too many bad scenarios otherwise.
And, even more importantly, it changes the responsibility equation. You wear the masks to protect others from you more than to protect you from others . The vaccination is 180 degrees from that.

It appears likely there will be an emergency approval from the CDC, followed up later by the standard approval process that takes a little longer. The point is probably moot because I won't be in the first wave of eligible people, but I might be inclined to wait for standard approval.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing some successful post market trials, but I am very happy with the progress made. I would have to think it helps the collective morale of those on the front lines.
I am amazed at the speed. Don't know about vaccine trials, but from my behind the scenes experiences in drug/device trials just getting sites selected and initiated can take 6 months or more....and enrollment - not uncommon to blow through original budget scopes due to delays in getting adequately enrolled (and regulatory related delays). Kudos to all involved.

Looks like we as a country were able to cut through a lot of the red tape that has always made progress so difficult

When my son the PhD biophysicist and my golf partner, the PhD biologist, both of whom are in the world of big pharma, say take it - I will take it. And both have said - take it as soon as you can.

I am hearing much the same thing. However, my wife (the RN of 50 year's experience) says to wait a bit and to choose carefully WHICH vaccine I get since we already see they are not all equally effective for seniors.

Right now, 14% of Crossporters wouldn't. I'd get it even though I hate needles! I cringe every time I see a news segment showing someone getting a needle in the arm. I DID get my flu shot already.

Got my flu shot for seniors, my pneumonia shot and my shingles shot (both doses). I'll probably get this one as well, I just won't be first on line.

Two injections. Both wore me out for 24-36 hours. Nothing terrible and if the Covid vaccine did the same thing, I'd still be on board.

Since I am immune compromised from chemo treatments, I would get in line right away for a shot or two....They seem to be in the 90% affective range, which is a lot better than the flu shot I got a few months back...I read today the first to be "shot up" will have the opportunity to do so on or about December 10th..
I wonder if getting the shot will give one the chance to do more in the social world. Will we get an inoculation card of some kind that will allow one to eat in a restaurant, go to a basketball game, go to church, all without a mask?

I will be a belt and suspenders type guy when it comes to attending events even after receiving the vaccine shots next year.
Before venturing into the Hart, Fitton, theaters, restaurants and airports, in a packed environment, I will be waiting for the available distribution of therapeutics and anti-body treatments from Regeneron, Eli Lilly, etc. Let’s hope that the costs of the anti-body treatments will be covered by Medicare and other insurance carriers. The price for treatment at an infusion center is expensive.
I am going to be patience, analyze the metrics, and wait until there is a high degree that the virus has been abated. No sense getting sick, when there is ESPN+, Grubhub, etc,

My belt and suspenders would be to get the vaccine and continue wearing a mask.

For some of us, myself included, wearing a mask is an improvement of visage and image. 😷
I can hear it now as you walk through the atrium, “Who was that Masked Man?.....It was Sader 1970....” The band will be playing the William Tell Overture as you enter the arena before the game.
Hope you have a Royal Purple Mask.

I read that some scientists are concerned that the new vaccine might not prevent you from becoming infected, it will just prevent you from getting sick. This means that vaccinated people can still potentially spread the disease. I think the thought is that we will all still need to wear masks until by some combination of illness and vaccination we achieve herd immunity. I can't speak to the truth of all this as I am no a scientists but it's something to think about.
