Well if they were worried about twisting, I hope the trusses were bolted in. The winds atop Mt. St. James are anything but a gentle zephyr today. Flag is blowing straight out right now according to the Web Cam!

Actually, they found them pretty quickly. The tree cut down was located near Loyola and a Jesuit or one of the employees in Loyola saw the culprits cutting it down and wrote down the license plate of the car they used to transport it. Turns out the car belonged to one of the Head RAs in Mulledy who had loaned his car to 3 guys on the Mulledy House Council who were charged with getting a tree for the party. I think the tree they selected was worth a couple thousand dollars. D'oh! We ended up with the tree as our Christmas tree in the rec room when the Jesuit community was still in Loyola Hall. Some wag mad a banner for the upper part of the tree that read: "$2000."

I believe there is a verticle skylight that runs along the roof peak.

I believe there is a verticle skylight that runs along the roof peak. Yes there is. It faces east. From the drawings, the roof itself seems to be somewhat translucent. Along the west wall, there are large ventilation screens which appear to be for return air. While they are working this morning, it does not appear they will hoist another truss today.

^^^ This drone image is probably circa Aug 12-17. It shows the new and final configuration for the roadway that once looped around the Hart. The fresh black asphalt by Figge covers a new sewer line from the NFH. The light blue roofs are over the basketball offices / locker rooms (top section) and AD offices (nearer the camera). It does look like new duct work along the west side of the Hart roof leading to the new lobby entrance. The blue-colored machine is tucked inside what will be the SE corner of the NFH. The inner wall being built along the south end of the NFH may be for equipment storage closets, and stairs. The new main electrical rooms and the natural gas line, valves, and meter, will be located at the open space next to the white trailer, and near the exit stairs at the SE corner of the Hart court. I am not sure what the cutout in the roof of the AD space is for. I will need to re-look at plans. Right click on the image, and open in new tab, for larger.

From the webcam you can see Ironworkers walking along the steel girders way up high with the wind blowing strong as you can see from the flag. Those guys are amazing.

They quit about 7 PM last night. Nice overtime rate for those union iron workers! (Who are probably from Greater Boston).
I would expect they want to have the steel done by Thanksgiving. In football terms, they are on their own 10, and have 100 yards (counting the far end zone) to go
I think they will bring in another crane for the practice court steel, which will be child's play compared to the NFH. ______________________________
On the cost of Luth, and IIRC, this was discussed on the old board, HC said before the Worcester Planning Board late last year that the construction cost was about $72 million.
This is $23 million less than the more frequently quoted price. Why the difference?
a,) The $72 million is probably in conjunction with a building permit, and HC would prudently keep the permit estimate low (given permit cost as percentage of construction).
b.) The $72 million probably does not include HC provided furnishings and equipment.
c.) The $72 million may not include the cost of land contouring, landscaping, and installation of utility lines, including electrical, natural gas, and sewer, all of which are external to the building itself.
d.) The $72 million probably does not include an allowance for contingencies.
e.) Or, the $95 million includes architect / engineering costs which HC paid for years before actual construction.
f.) Or, the $95 million includes an allowance for an indoor track, or a possible future expansion of the rink. (If contingency is not used.)

From the webcam, there is a second flag below the American flag. My guess is that it says HC.
From the webcam, not the photos, the steel framework for the NFH is about half-way done. The roof is perhaps 3/4ths done where the steel framework is in place.
For the locker rooms below strength and condition, the corridors and inner walls look to be pretty far along. As best as I can deduce, these are masonry brick. As strength and conditioning is basically an open bay, completion of that can be done in practically no time.
No indication of any steel being installed for the practice court.

Am I seeing correctly that there are no backs on the seats?

Wondering the same think myself, HC92. If so, pretty strange to have this renovation then just install cushioned bleachers.

Not ideal but I'll wait to see the final product before I opine. The locker rooms and practice courts and such may be where the most value is gained for the basketball programs.

Having bleachers low and chair backs high allows HC (and every school with such set-up) to have tiered price points for seats where the extra $ actually gets you a much more comfortable seat. If the bleachers had backs/armrests most fans would buy the cheaper seats given little difference; not to mention it would also cut down on the seating capacity.
That being said - The new-style molded plastic seats are harder than rocks.

I posted this image on the old board. This is the seat system that HC specified. This particular image shows a combination of seat-backs and bleacher-style rows. From the most recent image of the installed seating, either there is no seatback seating, or the seatback itself is installed separately, and that has yet to be done.

I have been extremely impressed with what I've seen so far in checking out the webcam, eyewitness accounts, etc. But I must say, if the final version of the gym ends up adding no additional chairbacks, then I will be disappointed. Still holding out hope for some kind of video board.

For older fans with back and knee issues, backless bleachers are a real hardship.

For older fans with back and knee issues, backless bleachers are a real hardship. Which is why they have chair backs available. The arena is going to look as good as it has in years so just calm down.

I for one am quite calm, but will still be disappointed if there aren't more chairbacks offered. A large percentage of the most loyal fans (some going back to Day 1) are old fogies like me that sit in the lower bowl. If we all have to move it's going to look pretty empty down below. If its cost, heck, I'll pay for the backs in my row, hold a bake sale, etc. At least it looks like those backs can be installed at any time, so maybe that will indeed happen at some point. Case Gym at BU now has courtside chairbacks, the Lafayette renovation gave them chairbacks......no reason why we can't have them. Having said that, I was quite impressed with the progress while checking it out yesterday. Overall it's going to be a huge improvement for the athletics program. And I hear the basketball floor is going to be really cool looking. So things are looking up.

Well, hey now! If you have chairbacks in section F, why should I pay extra to remain in the V.I.P. section 8? I might have to re-consider and move to the low rent district and put up with the rowdy crew down there ("you, you, you, ooooon, YOU!") No senior discounts for the chairbacks "upstairs." My life is getting too complicated!

I assumed the black flag below the Amer flag is the Vietnam POW flag, which is often found beneath the Amer flag.

Saw it on Saturday while on campus and thought the same thing when I first saw it. On closer inspection - which was still tough to tell for sure as it was pretty high and pretty far away behind the fences - I'm pretty sure it is a royal purple flag with the HC shield on it.

With my tired eyes on Saturday evening, it appeared to be duplicate of the HC flag that was flying in the high above the closed end of the stadium during the game.
The color appeared to be black, unless it is a really deep shade of purple, aka, eggplant purple.
The Luth complex is indeed massive, I looked at it from several angles while on campus Saturday, and it is impressive. The Luth complex along with the Pryor Performance Center will dramatically change the upper campus. Hope to be around when both are completed and running.
