CCSU is a good program. Class of that league and pretty good. A non conference win like that would be a solid victory. The rest of the league - meh.

OK, let's say Gordie had the same performance (let's say 20% even more impressive) against a Wagner, or Sacred Heart, or CCSU, or Bryant. No one would ever know his name. Let’s settle this once and for all. Do you or do you not want us to play SHU and CCSU? No more beating around the bush. Nope. They bring nothing to the table in our mission to elevate the program (If that is actually the mission)

Reason being that comparing SHU, CCSU and Bryant in 2020 to SHU, CCSU and Bryant in 1986 is apples to oranges. Those schools were all D-II or D-III at the time. The Duffner-era equivalent to the aforementioned NEC schools would be the likes of Northeastern, BU, Buffalo, Rhode Island, Maine, Hofstra and UNH. Pretty sure we played some of those schools during that time, not to mention the Patriot League schedule. Aside from HC and Colgate, the rest of the PL had moved up to I-AA from Division II -- I think Fordham was Division III before they joined. Holy Cross playing Sacred Heart in 1987 would be the equivalent of last year's team playing Stonehill.

If Gordie had not been a throwback two way player far fewer would know his name. His skills and stats on both sides of the ball were impressive but as a one way 1-AA player (No "FCS/FBS" at that time, right?) he probably wouldn't have been in the top five in voting for the Heisman Trophy. That two way throwback gave Gregg Burke the hook he needed and boy did he run with it...all the way to the Downtown Athletic Club.

Sometimes the only team you can play is a team that has the common open date and that you can agree on venue.
In order to complete a home schedule beyond league schedule, you may not be able to get the teams on your wish list in a given year. HC must find at least two or three non league teams a year willing to play at Fitton Field. For Away games, HC must determine if the game is not a home and home, if the guarantee is worth the cost, and distance to be feasible.
“ You can’t always get what you want”. “You get what you need” .
Think I heard a song with those lyrics. 🤔 Believe it was sung by a group called the rocks. 😎

Rolling Rock Beer sued them for name infringement so they reluctantly changed their name to the Rolling Stones.

I took my son to the '86 game. My clearest memory of that day was Army's quarterback trying one last pass, but instead disappearing under a sea of white HC jerseys.
