Did that game for WCHC...we were in this booth above the regular press-box...they were none too pleased with us post-game with our hootin' and hollerin' Just a great weekend...stayed with friends nearby, Sox beat the Mets that night in the WS too. Was that really 34 years ago???

Play Army, Navy, Air Force, Rice, Duke; go out and aggressively get those games.
Stop the madness of playing Wagner, Sacred Heart, CCSU, Bryant. Anyone rewatching those games? Because no one cares about those games; never did.

nhgteamer: Stop the madness, indeed. Why not watch HOLY CROSS and whomever they play? If you watch only to see other teams, why not go elsewhere? There are people who want to watch Holy Cross and whomever they are playing. You say "no one" is in that category. You are wrong about that, but nothing seems to slow you down.

But, let's face it, we've played a number of schools in the last decade that shouldn't be part of the future of HC football. We have a chance to get better...perhaps much better...under the Chesney regime. Solid coaching and superior recruiting are the keys and improving the schedule helps recruiting. (By the way, you get a grammar gold star from my eighth grade teacher, Sister Mary Benigna, for your correct use of "whomever".)

That was a fun rewatch. Not sure about Army’s decision to go for it on 4th and long instead of going for the tying field goal. Maybe their kicker stunk but the HC defense had to be tired. I would have taken my chances in OT if I was Army.

No OT then....I think it was somewhat chutzpah on Army's part....to win at Tennessee the week before, they weren't playing to tie HC

Lots of decisions made then wouldn't be made now....because of the OT rule.

I would have taken my chances in OT if I was Army. OT didnt become a thing until an entire decade later. The last and only tie I was old enough to remember watching was Army-Rice in 1995. HC also blocked a FG earlier in this game. 87 is right though -- you can't beat Tennessee and then play for a tie against a I-AA a week later. WTAG headline would've read "HC BEATS ARMY 17-17!"

No OT??? Definitely did not remember that. Decision makes more sense now. Might have to dig through my old ticket stubs to see if I went to that game. I would be shocked if I didn’t.

HC tied Brown in 1985 and Harvard in 1983, so both were in recent memory to the Army game.
The former felt more like a win than a loss (as HC blocked a game-winning FG on the game's final play); Harvard was just the opposite (believe HC was 7-0 or 8-0 going into that game, so it spoiled a perfect season to that point; and Gill Fenerty's season was ruined due to a shoulder injury).

Just saw this thread now so I missed the re-watch. But I attended the game and remember in the fourth quarter the announcer seemed to say "Tackle, Lockbaum" on every play. That game was really Gordie's coming out party.

OK, let's say Gordie had the same performance (let's say 20% even more impressive) against a Wagner, or Sacred Heart, or CCSU, or Bryant.
No one would ever know his name.

That had to be Duff's best win at HC. Army might not have been as good as they were the years preceding this, but they were still 6-5, beat Syracuse and Tennessee and won the Commander's Cup that year.
We actually blew them out the following year...score is deceiving, we were up 27-7 at the half and 34-10 pretty late. They had dropped off a bit in 1987.
The tragedy, if there is one, of the 1987 team is that there wasn't really anyone on the schedule that year that could challenge us that season.
