I guess that means he'll head there for Spring semester and play (or at least compete for the QB slot) their Spring season (the Sam Houston State schedule is posted). I'm guessing immediate eligibility this Covid season.
Still waiting for our schedule.

Will we see a Patriot League mass exodus of talent as a result of the COVID 19 indecision?

Unlikely. After all, how many of those decisive schools had to cancel or postpone games due to players and coaches with Covid 19? I am not sure anyone would want to rush there.

Will we see a Patriot League mass exodus of talent as a result of the COVID 19 indecision? I don’t think the timing is quite right for talented PL players to transfer to the CAA (for example) in order to play a football season this year (Shoemaker being an exception, of course).

Appears that Shoemaker wanted to be closer to home. He is from Prosper Texas.
I would not see his transferring as a signal of an exodus from the Patriot League by underclassmen, maybe just a kid who did not like going to school in Pennsylvania.
Sam Houston has had a good football program, coached by KC Keeler. The Offensive Coordinator Quarterbacks Coach is Ryan Carty, who previously coached at New Hampshire.
Overall, the football and overall facilities are on par with Lafayette. SHSU stadium, Bowers Field seats 14,000 compared to Fisher Field at 13,132. The football culture at SHSU may be more appealing to Shoemaker than the Patriot League, thus the reason to transfer.

Going from the #40 National Liberal Arts College - Lafayette to the #272 National University - Sam Houston State. SHSU has a 79% acceptance rate. The Economics program is ranked #376 out of 956. economics-colleges.com/sam-houston-state-universityLafayette is ranked at #213. economics-colleges.com/lafayette-college Northeast Rankings economics-colleges.com/northeastIn comparison, College Factual has Holy Cross listed as #32 Nationally. So the rankings will vary from survey to survey. Lafayette is ranked #52. www.collegefactual.com/majors/social-sciences/economics/rankings/top-ranked/Appears that his decision was not based on academic prestige or vigor in comparing the two institutions. He was an Economics major at Lafayette. Will be interesting to see his major, once he is added to the SHSU roster. Maybe, he realized that there is an emerging Juggernaut being built at another institution in the Patriot League, and he will not be seeing the FCS playoffs 🤔😊 at Lafayette. That path may be easier at SHSU.

Maybe, he realized that there is an emerging Juggernaut being built at another institution in the Patriot League, and he will not be seeing the FCS playoffs at Lafayette. That path may be easier at SHSU. It's too early to talk about a juggernaut at Bucknell... A couple of other points: 1. Assuming it's not grades, Sam Houston State is an odd choice. It's not close to Prosper (206 miles to the south) and Prosper is one of those high-wealth Dallas exurbs where the kids don't go below the North Texas on academic selectivity. Among public colleges in Texas the academic tiers for football programs are roughly as follows: 1. Texas, Texas A&M 2. Texas Tech 3. Houston, North Texas 4. UTEP, UTSA 5. Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State 6. Others (Prairie View, Texas Southern, Lamar, etc.) My first guess is that SHSU has a recruiter who maintained ties and Keegan wants to compete with a playoff contender. Even the most maroon of Leopard supporters knows this not to be the case going forward, especially with the PL now firmly among the one-bid playoff conferences. 2. I expect a lot of transfers this year across the schools, particularly seniors who can graduate and take a grad transfer year elsewhere. Georgetown's best returning defensive player, linebacker Wes Bowers, is graduating early and taking his last year of eligibility elsewhere.

That's a big hit to the Pards...that kid looked good last year (?), two years ago? I'm so confused

Already seeing seniors grad transferring to use that extra year to play and get a free Masters. 3 so far.

/\ With every kid getting an extra year (and the fact PL schools don't use graduate football players) that makes sense.
Shoemaker's departure, right now to play right away in the FCS season, is unusual. And a blow to Lafayette since he was a real difference maker for them.

Wow. Tough loss for the Leopards. Sam Houston is only 3 hours from his Texas home. Certainly not the first college kid to move closer to home during these crazy times.

Will we see a Patriot League mass exodus of talent as a result of the COVID 19 indecision? Possibly. It is a big fear I'm sure. Not a good look when you're one of the few conferences not playing.
