In arguably the most 2020 thing yet, my power company in Central CT is warning of widespread power outages overnight tonight. Good luck to all posters in dealing with yet another miserable gift from our least favorite year.

We have the same warning in RI. Doesn’t mean we’ll have an outage. Perhaps just a version of the Disney theory in reverse: over warn and under results. If we don’t have an outage, we’ll feel even better about Christmas . . . . and maybe even the power company.

Similar warnings in NJ. (Winds of 45-65 mph?!)

Not to be a “my dog is bigger than your dog” but heard possible 70 mph gusts in the Ocean State. In January we plan on having 3 60+’ tall trees removed from the front yard. Just hoping nature doesn’t do it first and they land on the house.

We had two major (multi-day) power outages in Louisville within the past 20 years and a few minor ones. So, we bought a whole house generator maybe 5 years ago. We have had only a few minor outages since and the generator kicked on and kept us going with no problems. I don't know whether the generator will add to the value of my house when I go to sell but it is good for peace of mind and marital harmony.

I have a reasonably powerful portable generator that can run most of my house so we’re okay. My mother invested in the whole house one a couple of months ago and is quite happy with her purchase this Christmas Eve.

We only lost power for a short time around 2:00 am. It could have been much worse.

Looks like the storm did not live up to expectations, at least here 10 miles SE of Worcester... my weather station instruments show 2.56 inches of rain, a high of 30 mph for wind. We are the second highest spot in town (town water tower is the highest). No reports of power outages. Hope all who were concerned about wind damage and power outages came through without any problems. Big swing in temperature though, 60's yesterday to 20's during last night!!!

I bought gas for my small generator but didn't need it. Another option to a whole house generator is solar panels and (expensive I believe) a backup battery so you can still have full power if the Electric utility goes out. My neighbor says the battery set up she is eyeing will keep power on for four days without sun and indefinitely with sunny days. She has the rooftop panels now and pays only a service charge for her electricity but when the utility goes down she still loses power.

The winds were crazy overnight here but we somehow kept power. Pretty sure it’s because I filled up my generator with gas the night before so now I have to either siphon it back out or just run it empty one of these days. I don’t like leaving the gas in there too long even with fuel stabilizer.

I had no loss of power. I however saw some line damage on a 3 mile walk I did in my neighborhood the day after Christmas. Two homes had damaged lines going from the street to the house. A pine tree was uprooted and came down on the lines in one yard. The electric dept personnel were just arriving as I walked by. Another house had what appeared to be the tv/internet cable line damaged.
