1. How do we defend?....M2M, zone, presses..Double teams..do we have speed and quickness to defend on the perimeter? Can our bigs impose themself inside? Do they have the quickness and footwork to defend on the block? Do we rebound with authority....Do we NOT give up fast break layups..
2. What does our half court offense do? Is there movement without the ball....Do we hit the open shots...Do we have players who can finish....Do we get second chance points...Do we look to attack the rim...Speed and quickness to break down the opposition? Do we score in our half court sets....
3. Do we push the ball and get easy shots, do we score off our defense, Do we score on offensive rebounds...
4..Do we play hard.....get after loose balls, get tips on D, box out! are we physical all over the court and hold our ground...
5..do we play well as a team? support each other....make free throws, enjoy the game..
6. BLOOB plays, can we score off them? press break offense?
It's a laundry list, lots of aspects of a game to look for to asses how the team is playing...Our newcomers have to show up right away, and prove they belong...
So, of course the most important aspect is getting a win, and learning to win!
Go Cross Go!..

Your first point, DiMarz, is the first question I have as well — will the defense be better and will Nelson have a plan on the defensive end?

These are all good points from DiMarz. I guess I would even simplify it more to:
1. We have to be more physical 2. We have to be more athletic 3. We need guys who can create offense. It's important to run an offense but sometimes you just need someone to make something happen and score when you need it.
But I saw no quit in the team last year, and that's to the credit of Coach Nelson and the players in the midst of a tough season. For example, I focused on Ryan Wade a lot last year. He was really thrown into the fire as a freshman but to my eyes he never stopped working hard. I'm not sure what his ceiling is but he's going to be a good player and a high character guy for the next three years.

Your first point, DiMarz, is the first question I have as well — will the defense be better and will Nelson have a plan on the defensive end? I have a gut feeling that the players HC brought in will be much more hard nose defenders than the past few seasons..Coach sees 9 or 10 players per game getting time...So fouls should not be a big problem, and Coach Nelson has said he plans to put pressure on basically the entire game....I think soft defenders are a thing of the past for this Coach! Plus having a very long pre-season, the team has had time to get many different D's ready to go....Also, knowing the schedule, the team has to be able to play different styles to make opponents work much harder to prepare....

need show we have the physicality/athleticism to play relentless m2m D that wears down opponents... do we have a rim protector?
hopefully a faster O & relentless D with more players will get us into enough end game scenarios to start to evaluate coaching & experience

do we have a rim protector? Maybe - unfortunately, he's not in the country at the moment.

I think that was the plan until the other day when the Commonwealth of Mass. said no one can come to a college campus in the state until Jan 18th. It remains to be seen if that date holds up. If you are already on campus or you have no where else to live, you are exempt.

Louth arrived on campus today. So did Ricketts and Thorne, the freshman hockey players.
Believe they may have bought their plane tickets and otherwise committed to arriving prior to the new Massachusetts guidelines were announced, so were exempted.

Based on very little, I’m not expecting Louth to make a huge impact this year. He’ll be well behind the other guys who have been practicing together and young guys that size need generally some time to become productive at the D1 level anyway. Of course, you could say the second part about Rabinovich too. At least one of them will have to play some minutes in the paint with Faw and Gates.

Louth played a great deal in the paint in High School. Mike played the low post when WA’s 7 footer was on the bench which was often,

Great news regarding our students from north of the US border.
Let’s hope the basketball team will be revealing a tough, in your face offense and defense. I am so tired of the passive pass it around the perimeter offense that throws up three point attempts as the clock is expiring. I want to see aggressive rebounding on both ends of the court. Hope the guys have been schooled to be like pit bulls when playing.

I'm looking for talent, athleticism, and hustle from the frosh. If we out-recruited our PL foes we have a chance of closing the gap. If not, we're looking at the basement again. We already know what we are bringing back from last year's 3-29 squad.

On Monday I look for: Defense, Rebounding, Playing Hard & Playing Together. Hitting the open shooter in rhythm will take time to develop.

Aggressiveness, which going forward becomes a staple of The Full Nelson, even if it results in a lot of mistakes in the early going (keeping in mind the inexperience). I have no issue with some charges going against them, some over the back fouls, etc. To me, its to be expected. No fear!

Very good news Probably will not play early this week, but perhaps on the weekend My understanding is that, as of now, Massachusetts requires anybody coming into the state to quarantine for 14 days. But I'm sure there are exceptions. At a minimum, he will likely have to test negative twice over the course of several days before being able to join the team.

There are exceptions, Whole teams are coming from Colgate, Army, and Lehigh this season. I'm pretty sure they will not be quarantining

I believe the quarantine in MA for out of state visitors is only required in the absence of a negative COVID test within 72 hours of coming into the state. I believe the PL testing protocols would meet that standard.

Watching Navy @ Bucknell right now on CBS Sports tv... neither team looks impressive... first thought was how far Bucknell has fallen... looking forward to Monday and see what we have... maybe we have a shot given what I am seeing right now....
