Interesting to me too that BU, with all their experience, was led by a kid who didn't even play as a frosh last year due to injury (Tate). He's good. Is he as good as he played today or just a very solid player? today he was really good

Hard to say since this was his first college game. He probably is not a 90% fg shooter

Substantial six figure investment for a dedicated server room and all needed with it: cooling, wiring, etc. in the Hart. Will always be probs with any internet-based production to varying levels game to game emanating from the Hart until it's addressed. Don't count on HC making the investment to upgrade. Pretty sure you can count on HC making that investment and that has been done. Issue today was city wide. If HC had an ethernet dedicated server already in place and it was being used, there wouldn't have been issues today when WiFi went down. As long as HC runs games through wifi/broadband, the potential is always there for issues.

There were no problems with my Charter TV cable, telephone, or internet today except for the outages we all experienced during the game.

Charter Spectrum posted they had a damaged fiber optics cable today...That was the problem...Nothing to do with HC's networks

Agree overall that this was a satisfactory performance considering all of our new players - great enthusiasm and effort throughout my other thought is that I hope BU is the class of the league (with Colgate) as they certainly showed it today winning without a 1st team PL player in Walter Whyte - he's legit

The game today was a positive step forward
The first half might have been a combination of adrenalin and youthful exuberance
Both are hard to sustain, but great to have for future performance as players mature as individuals and as a tesm
The coach, also suffered from both, and that is not bad, but his energy might have impacted the outcome for the first game
Once the team finds balance, I believe it will overperform for the year-if that happens that will mean Nelson is growing as a cosch
That balance will allow some players to relax and enjoy the game, and others to more quickly understand their role on this team in a shortened season
Tomorrow could be a very tight game or a blow out, but an important step forward!. We should evaluate this group as a team at the end of January and then we will each have a better sense of the future. Again, today was much more enjoyable to watch over previous seasons.

WORCESTER — The Holy Cross men’s basketball was picked to finish 10th, or last, in a preseason poll, while defending league tournament champion Boston University was predicted to finish first.
For much of Monday afternoon’s terrific tilt between the teams, there was no such disparity on the court.
But the Crusaders were unable to counter a strong, game-ending surge by the Terriers, who pulled away for an 83-76 decision in the season opener for both teams at the Hart Center.
“There were some things we did really good today and some things we have to clean up before (Tuesday),” forward Austin Butler said. “It’s not huge things, just little things in terms of the scouting report. But the biggest thing is down the stretch we have to get more stops.”
The Crusaders and Terriers will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Boston as the league is scheduling back-to-back games among opponents this season in a bid to increase safety during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Crusaders, who didn’t trail until there was 7:37 left to play, regained the lead on a Butler jumper that made it 68-66 with 5:05 to play. But they were outscored, 17-8, the rest of the way while making 3 of 9 field goals, 1 of 9 free throws — four players combining for the misses — and committing two turnovers.
“I thought we missed a lot of shots right at the rim, jump-hooks, finishes,” second-year coach Brett Nelson said. “We have to finish better around the rim, missed some easy shots I see us at practice making.
“And then with our free-throw shooting, it’s the first time (live). You can do everything in practice that you want, but until you get into a live situation where there is actual game pressure — in the second half, a lot of those free throws were big free throws — and it’s something I know we’ll learn from.”
Butler, who played 35 minutes despite suffering some sort of lower back injury with about 15 minutes to play, scored a team high 24 points. He was 11 for 18 from the field, but 0 for 5 from the line.
Junior forward Gerrale Gates added 19 points and senior guard Matt Faw 13.

Cutouts 'cheer' Crusaders: Holy Cross men's basketball opens its 2020-21 season without fans
WORCESTER — The Holy Cross men’s basketball team took the court at the Hart Center on Monday afternoon to play its first game — against Boston University — in 304 days, marking the latest it had opened a season in 77 years.
It did so in front of a super sparse gathering at a fabulous facility that — aside from coaches, players, and support staff for the two Patriot League opponents — included a couple of EMTs, four referees, about 10 media members and a handful of statisticians.
No band, no cheerleaders, no fans, although the faithful were represented by about 100 cardboard cutouts propped up in the bleachers behind both baskets. And, yes, they included esteemed alums Bob Cousy and Dr. Anthony Fauci.
“No. 1, I know both teams were really excited to play,” second-year coach Brett Nelson said following the Crusaders’ 83-76 loss to the defending PL Tournament champion Terriers. “Our guys were really, really excited to have that opportunity. They’ve been really working hard and we’ve all been through a lot over the last 10 months or so.”
The Crusaders’ last played on March 3, 2020, dropping a three-point decision at Bucknell.
“There was a lot of anxiety, good anxiety, leading up to today,” Butler said. “Once that ball tipped up, it was good to be out there. I think it had been 10 months (since the last game) and we’ve just been practicing and playing against each other, so it was fun to get out there and play a game.”
Temperature checks were mandated for those entering the usually energetic building on game day, the Crusaders having averaged a solid1,358 fans at home last season despite finishing 3-29.
But some things were the same
Warmups and timeouts featured music from the likes of Lil Baby & 42 Dugg and Pop Smoke. Public address announcer Andy Lacombe called out made baskets, fouls, substitutions, and timeouts as he usually would.
And the game itself was still played with five players to a side and baskets stationed 94 feet apart, field goals counting for two or three points depending on where they were scored from.
“Once the ball goes up, it’s all regular,” said junior forward Gerrale Gates, who dropped in 19. “Our team, our bench had great energy, so you’re not even thinking about the fans not being there.
“Yes, we wish they could have been here, but it’s safer for them not to be. With our bench and coaches on the sideline bringing the energy it felt like a regular old game.”

Regarding the audio portion of today's game.... I had to crank up the volume on my TV so we could hear the announcers. Then, when they went to a commercial break we had to "mute" the sound because it blasted. Did anybody else experience this? I have watched other games this last weekend and did not have this problem. Any thoughts regarding this? Is it HC's equipment or lack thereof?

This is simply a settings issue on mic boost that should have been noticed by the producer, and conveyed at the first break to the broadcast tandem to adjust it on their Comrex.

I experienced it too, have to train myself to be quicker w/the muting! At least it was Lily and not Joe Namath or Kars for Kids.

It is really annoying when you have to push the volume on the TV up to its max at 100, then mute the commercials, then unmute to get back to the game. Really hope the message gets back to the producer to make these, what seem like, pretty straight forward adjustments!

The fake crowd noise was probably amped up at the BC/ND game to mask all the swearing and cursing 🤬 on the sidelines.
Hegelian Dialectics was not part of the method of discussions occurring between the coaching staff and the linemen.
