Definitely will be overmatched most games. Lack of height/size certainly an issue, good point. Seems like Magarity recognizes it and did two things today: 1. Played zone to keep BU posts from getting in deep for easy ones. 2. Pressed up on the perimeter (which seemed to bother BU early) It will be challenging for AL until a consistent second scorer can emerge. Aside from the missed lay-ups, she played great. Agree on McCormack; she competes. New folks/people in new roles did reasonably well.

It was bad before any of that happened.

I think Davis was there, sitting in the back row on the bench, did not appear to be suited up.

Our bigs aren't imposing. If she wore a very large mask could we slip Megan Swords back in there?

At about the two minute mark at the beginning of the game the announcer says that Jenay Faulkner "retired" after last year. He kind of swallowed his words so he might have said she was forced to retire.

BOSTON — While the Holy Cross women's basketball team is coming off an encouraging 19-11 season, the void left by graduated All-Patriot League forward Lauren Manis will be felt.
During Monday's long-awaited season opener, one of Manis' high school teammates heated up against the Crusaders.
Senior Katie Nelson, who teamed with Manis at Bishop Feehan in Attleboro, scored 14 of her 17 points in the first half and had 5 assists, 4 rebounds and a steal to help Boston University past Holy Cross, 76-54, at the Case Center, in Maureen Magarity's HC coaching debut.
Junior guard Avery LaBarbera, an All-Patriot League preseason selection, had 15 points, 4 assists and 4 steals to lead Holy Cross, and freshman guard Cara McCormack added 11 points.
BU's Sydney Johnson scored a game-high 18 points.
The Crusaders trailed by as many as 24 points in the third quarter, yet after scoring the first four points of the fourth, they were down only 55-45. Johnson, however, drilled a 3-pointer from Nelson to end that run and regain momentum for BU.
The teams meet again at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hart Center, a game that will be aired live on the Patriot League on ESPN+, in the absence of fans on Mount St. James.
The opener had both teams working out kinks at the start — more than a minute passed before anyone took a shot. When Holy Cross took a timeout with 4:55 left in the first, both teams had four turnovers on six possessions, with BU holding a 4-3 lead. Junior Kelly Petro's 3-pointer from LaBarbera with 7:17 left in first quarter provided the season's first scoring for HC.
The next scoring came almost four minutes later, when LaBarbera nailed a 3 from McCormack to vie HC a 6-4 edge.
Freshman Janelle Allen's conventional 3-point play with 2:37 left in the period gave the Crusaders an 11-8 advantage. But Nelson scored four straight points in the final minute, on a field goal and two free throws as the Terriers took a 12-11 lead
HC regained the edge entering the second quarter as McCormack's layup with 3 seconds left had the visitors ahead, 13-12, after one.
The Terriers opened the second period on a five-point run, and a 3 by Nelson and two free throws by Emily Esposito, before sophomore Addisyn Cross halted the spurt with two from the line.
BU, which finished second in the Patriot League last season, took advantage of two HC 3-point misses, by LaBarbera and McCormack, midway through the second as a Johnson layup and a Nelson trey gave the Terriers a 24-18 lead with 4:45 left. Nelson finished the half with 14 points
The Terriers' lead reached double digits (28-18) with 3:46 left, after Charia Tibbitt netted a field goal and two free throws.
Esposito's jumper with 1:51 left in the half hiked BU's lead to 35-22, but LaBarbera answered that with her third 3-pointer 33 seconds later, and freshman Bronagh Power-Cassidy hit two from the line for her first college points, closing HC to within 35-27, the way the score remained at halftime.
HC senior center Shannon Murphy had two blocked shots in the first half and finished with three for the game.
BU pulled away with a 13-point spurt after intermission, with Maren Durant and Johnson each scoring two baskets to help the Terriers to a 48-27 lead.
HC didn't scored until there was 5:20 left in the third, when Power-Cassidy hit two more free throws.
The Crusaders trailed by as many as 24 points midway through the third clipped 10 points off the deficit before the period ended, with La Barbera collecting 4 points, an assist and a steal in the segment. BU led, 55-41, entering the fourth.
