So much BS in that article from start to finish. Edsall is the biggest whore there is and he’s acting all high and mighty for cancelling a season with his awful, money pit of a team?

The NYT has had it out for college football all year. They’ve rooted for bad things to happen.

The players decided. Admirable.

Who were they going to play? Not the B1G. Not the ACC. They could have played a 4 game season like UMass against the likes of Marshall, FAU, Liberty and Georgia Southern. And gone 0-4. Giving that up and preserving a year of eligibility under those circumstances is neither admirable nor heroic.
UConn cancelled its season on August 5. The NCAA did not grant the extra eligibility to those who played this year until August 21. So those players still thought they might lose eligibility by playing a partial season this year. And I’m guessing the state lost less money by them not playing so it may not have been entirely up to the players despite with the article says.

What an inspiring article. Hopefully those kids will get some type of national championship non-participation trophy to recognize their courage and heroism.

I try not to default to cynicism, but as a CT resident I can attest that the UConn football program is in tatters and Edsall might have looked at a year off as an opportunity to re-group and allow some of the memories of their recent hideous performances to fade. As the article correctly points out, they are one of the worst football teams in the nation.

Edsall is horrendous. I took a look at the other offers their signees had. Lots of places like Akron, Bowling Green, and FCS schools. I don't see it getting any better.

So, sounds like we can count on a big win against UConn in the fall.

Absolute horse crap. I'm guessing since UCONN is such a woke institution that their Men's Basketball team is also not playing right now out of concern for safety.

Putting aside the ‘courage’ of UConn to sit out 2020, their published schedule has our game on Thursday sep 2nd (quick turnaround for them as they open up at Fresno St aug 28)

The same Twitter account reports that UConn is paying Yale $285k for a game in October. I guess we should be pleased with our payout.

My tax dollars at work! $425K for the privilege of getting your butts kicked by an FCS school.

My tax dollars at work! $425K for the privilege of getting your butts kicked by an FCS school. But UConn is just about the worst FCS team in the nation. I'm not a big fan of HC's teams being pummeled by obviously superior talent (e.g. when our women's basketball team used to play UConn--ouch), but I'm not at all convinced that UConn will beat HC. BTW I live in CT and the sports reporting in CT is UConn all the time. They have huge budgetary problems, their foorball program stinks, and let's just say I'm not a big fan of Randy Edsall.

In the kindest words the coach might be considered arrogant without justification, living in his own version of la la land

Edsall is a complete prick, and that Conn hired him a second time after he abandoned his squad by not even flying home with them after Okla kicked their ass in the Fiesta Bowl 10 yrs ago shows that it's such a terrible job no legit coach wanted it.
