ESPN+ was great too. Must have been an HC/Worcester issue yesterday. ESPN+ great from BU, but the women's broadcast from Worcester still had big gaps. Make me think it may be HC's problem. Luckily, only half of our regular season games are in Worcester.

I stand firmly behind the belief that that twisted layup by RJ had every right to go in. Got a horrible roll. Even with all the free throw woes in the end pulled out the win. Great sign for when we do indeed start making those “Free” shots Yes, that was an impressive move by a freshman at that point in the ballgame. Nothing to be upset about.

And in case anyone is tempted, yes, we realize BU was short handed......so stop typing. Just keep working and improving, boys! Yeah, they'll be tougher with Heisenberg in the lineup.

Can we all agree the 'BU mask mandate' was a total disaster - everyone had their nose exposed from the get-go and for most of the game the mask was protecting their chins ! Like the other college teams, coaches and bench players should wear masks but not when you're on the floor. Are we waiting for the BU school administration to drop the hammer and have mask police at their next games, after today's non-compliance ? Unless there is some kind of mandate from the NCAA saying that a league or a school can impose mask wearing during a game and there are rules governing such an edict, it will not happen. The officials have no jurisdiction at this point, other than to be forced to wear them to officiate the ballgame.

Or (and this may be wildly farfetched) somebody from BU's school administration will torpedo the dingbat (and dangling) mask charade and let the basketball players on the court go maskless. New word: "Maskcharade". As in , "A basketball game broke out during a maskcharade at BU earlier this afternoon."

They have a highly ranked School of Public Health and a great Dean in Sandro Galea, but don't think it was his call or recommendation.

RJ had 5 defensive rebounds, a key, esp when we play a small lineup.

Not sure if anyone mentioned that this is the first time that HC MBB is at .500 since March 6, 2018
- a span of 1,036 days.

RJ had 5 defensive rebounds, a key, esp when we play a small lineup. After 2 games RJ has been terrific on both ends and what is needed for this team! We won and for that we are all happy and the prospects for the future are bright!!! Gates is a match up problem for most, but standing next to Butler he appears just a bit taller so I call him 6 ‘5” and a brute If Nelson continues to just drop the ball into Gates, many of the opposing coaches who can actually coach, will reduce his effectiveness-- Gates is a great presence in the PL, but he is a low block player that needs both player and ball movement to be most effective-today when Nelson was watching and not coaching (I thought I was watching the NBA ) we dumped and watched much like last year with Pridgen. The talent is vastly improved and will be a problem for many PL teams moving forward. I look at this season being more about the growth and maturity of Nelson, as he holds the keys to the car, and how good we can become. BTW he and the staff are proving they can recruit better players and for today that is critical!

As Mr. E would say, these games this season will the 77th, 78th, 79th, 80th, 81st and 82nd meeting(s) ever between these fine institutions. And, as Johnny Most would have chimed in, it might get nasty out there with all that familiarity.
Think of it, it's theoretically possible that they play them a 7th time too. An entire 7 game NBA playoff series.

He almost got burned today with the group he had out there after the under 8 time out; that group was, shall we say, very offensively challenged. Perhaps should have burned another TO to correct that. I think they had 2 or 3 trips up the court that came up empty; tough to do at that stage of a close game.

While certainly less than ideal at times, Nelson is going to have to trust his bench at some critical moments to get through all of the back-to-back games this year. The top group was on the floor at the end to finish the game strong when we needed it today (RJ + GG on offense, AB with the tremendous 1-on-1 defense) and may not have had any gas in the tank if Nelson hadn't given them breathers earlier in the half. We went 3-29 last year, lost our best player, and just won 3 out of 4 halves in 26 hours against the defending and preseason PL champs -- tough to find much fault in what Nelson is doing with the roster right now.

He gave the appearance he was subbing by the clock and to give players meaningful minutes, and for this early in the season, that possibly works for me, BUT he should not let them self destruct. His job during games is to put them in a position to win, and build confidence in each player on a young team. His job last year and this year is to teach them how to win I just think he is young, gets caught up in the moment, and is learning how to use his TO’s and be a head coach-give him time ✝️🙏🍀 Still a promising future....

Ok if you think so,you bleed more purple than I do Nelson is young, and will get better each week, but he isn't there yet and it might take another year or not. But thank you for listening to my view, as I respectfully am listening to your opinion

What a great defensive play by AB at the end. I finally figured out who GG reminds me of (and it goes back a ways). Back in the early 90's Seton Hall had a 6-7 monster from St. Anthony's named Jerry Walker (played on a team with Terry Dehere, before George Blaney arrived). An agile bull......GG is a slightly smaller version. The guy he most resembles from my 20 years of PL watching was AU’s Jernavis Draughn circa 2003. I think Gates is a little taller and more agile but very similar skill sets and absolute loads around the paint.

By my review of the play-by-play sheet, there were three groups with negative +/- in the second half: 1) Montgomery/Butler/Gates/Wade/Faw (-2) 14:05-12:47 2) Johnson/Butler/Faw/Humphrey/Martindale (-4) 10:15-8:14 3) Johnson/Wade/Faw/Montgomery/Townsell (-5) 8:04-6:32 BU never led by more than three, and the groups that were -4 and -5 were only on the floor for 1:59 and 1:28, respectively. The idea that Nelson was sitting back watching the game fade away without doing anything is fiction.

When I turned the game on in the first half (apparently after some sort of offensive explosion from Martindale), I’m pretty sure Gates, Butler and Wade were all on the pine. That made me a little nervous. But it all worked out. Excellent win.

Nelson’s offense created opportunities for Gates to get the ball where he can score from. He worked hard for position and often did not receive the ball when he was open. I disagree with your estimation of the coach after these two games. He is still searching for the best rotation and made the difficult decision to sub Wade for Faw. It was far from perfect, but worked out in the end. .Nelson gave them the chance to win. And they did. If he is to be blamed, rightfully so, for the record last season, he deserves some credit for the strong play these last two days.
