Andrew Mevis was a very good two way kicker (punt and place kick) for Fordham - he's moving on (not as a grad transfer) to Iowa St. - from an article: "Mevis is a do-everything kicker whose three-season Fordham statistics include making 27 of 38 field-goal attempts, including a 54-yarder, and averaging 39.8 yards on 216 punts. That included 72 that landed inside the 20-yard line."

(No idea if he's playing at Fordham this spring plus I have no idea if the PL is playing this spring in any case)

Fordham always seems to have really good kicking specialists.

On the Fordham website, he's listed as a senior.
Unlike a regular player, if I were Iowa State, I might actually want him playing in the spring; but I doubt he will.

Mevis is from semi-rural Indiana, and from his tweets, his younger brother is a kicker at Missouri.

Fordham always seems to have really good kicking specialists. I'll never forget being at a game in the Bronx against HC. Their punter was the best player on the field.

Sounds like you're describing the 2005 game where the Fordham punter was the one guy Matt Fanning had to beat for a go-ahead return touchdown that would have capped off a major comeback for the Crusaders. This was a game Fordham entered WINLESS if I recall, and HC was still in the hunt for league title implications a couple weeks after beating Top-10 Lehigh. This was Year 2 of Gilmore. Low and behold, the Fordham punter made the solo tackle (as the entire FU softball team squealed with glee right in front of me) and we fumbled the game away one or two plays later. This was my first ever HC football game in some really bad weather in the Bronx. I remember Mike Kielt scored two TDs that day as a frosh -- Steve Silva was sidelined with an injury.

Or he is referring to the 2007 game at Fordham that HC lost 24-21. Their punter, Dato (?), was outstanding in very windy conditions.

Dato was a monster indeed in that 2007 game. That was a stinging loss. Fordham basically clinched that game late by going for it on 4th and half a yard from their OWN 29 or so. Got the 1st down by maybe a foot.

Could have been either, my memory is hazy on the dates. I remember he hit his first punt and my dad looked at me with his trademark "Holy #@*&$~!!" face. And 3-4 punts into the game, one was better than the next. I think tears flew off the ball when the guy hit em...

One of those punts was muffed inside the 5 yard line and recovered by the Rams in the EZ. Those points were the difference in the game, and the Patriot League Championship that season.
