2-2 after the first two weekends with both wins on the road. We will all gladly take that. Does Butler need to be taken off the floor in end of game situations? No.

I knew I shouldn’t have written it. I accept full responsibility. For today, I will say that I don’t see any way we keep it close in an effort to go with the reverse jinx. You’re all welcome. No more positivity for you! You're only allowed to post pessimistic thoughts. Make former poster Saders look like Mr. Sunshine and Optimism. I'm going to wait a few more games before posting more detailed thoughts, but I'm much more optimistic after the first four games than I was going into the season.

No. Perhaps I should clarify -- Does Nelson need to ensure he doesn't have the ball in his hands during end of game situations? This, of course, assumes his free throws don't figure themselves out.

Key sequence in the second half . . .
Faw went to the bench with 10:32 left and HC down, 49-47. When he came back in five minutes later, HC up, 59-55. In between, we had nobody over 6-5 on the floor, hit 4-5 from deep, and forced three turnovers.

Good solid win..Nice to see the adjustments on both sides of the court, good movement of the ball, finding the open shooter late in the game...Austin is really doing a good job on the defensive end and rebounding! Plus he is knocking down the open 3's!! He sticks his nose in those tough plays under the hoop...RJ is getting more and more confident, starting to look to score a bit more and take the open 3's...Building confidence...Malcolm Townsend didn't play today...
2-2 in the first 2 weekends against 2 of the better teams in the league! Coaching staff has done a remarkable job, recruiting and preparing the players! It is nice to see the overall confidence the team is showing!

Butler - 13p, 14r. Except for his mysterious FT issues, he is playing the best ball of his career.

For the most part, I think GG is keeping his cool on the double teams, and not forcing things.
Ryan Wade becoming a real SOC (son of a coach).
AB being AB.
Real character builder!

AB is a two-edged sword. I don't know what has happened to his FT shooting, but he seems to have recovered his arm strength, and is again showing, a very nice 3-point shot.

Good win. Army has a good team this year. I assume going forward teams have film of future opponents now. This bodes well. The players seem to be buying what the coaches are selling. Plus the freshman seem to be actually able to shoot the ball. What a change. There may be hope for the future after all.

There seem to be quite a few good 3pt shooters who struggle at the ft line.

Small sample size, but a 39.5% on 3PT would be the highest mark this century and -- I'd venture to guess -- the highest in program history.
This percentage is tops in the PL and 16th nationally (as of 7PM ET tonight).

Just need to back them up a few feet. Or adopt the Hal Greer jump shot free throw. I know, I am old. Lots of the young kids do it because they don’t think they can reach if they don’t jump. One thing I’ve learned with all my kids is to force them not to jump on free throws as early as possible. Gets harder to change the older they get. Same with making lefty layups with proper footwork and using the left hand.

Agree with the off hand for layups Disagree with the FT practice. If kids are taught they have to keep their feet planted on the line, they change good form just to reach. When they are strong enough, they keep their good form and it does not matter if they leave their feet or not. Correct form is the key.

I'll double down on my comments after the first Army game about Austin's free throw shooting performance this season: it's an anomaly, like flipping a coin 8 times and it comes up tails every time. There's nothing wrong with the coin--it was just an anomaly. AB's end of season FT percentage will be just fine. Just as he won't shoot .632 on threes for the season, he won't shoot .100 on free throws either.

Today's win means HC has guaranteed improvement over last year's .094 win percentage

Those were some of the early days of the three point rule. Those season numbers would be more like a team’s stats for about a month these days.
