Daughter not running up the score on Dad. Flaherty contributes with a Trey after she gets warmed up and into the flow of the game.

frosh Allen is our 10th player and she was in a boot for the weekend - does not seem serious so hope she's back for next weekend. Maybe there's a walk-on on campus that can help with practice the rest of the season.

Just 9 again today or did a player or two come off the injured list (I only watched Q3)? As haze mentioned, Allen was in a boot. The announcers briefly mentioned that Davis was out for the season, no explanation of the injury. I'm sure we will hear the details right after they discuss the Faulkner medical retirement.

Have to give our new coaching staff kudos developing this shorthanded team with only 1 starter returning (almost unseen in college basketball) 3 players who I did not expect to see play this well: Ozemma - big improvement in all phases especially on the boards and grabbing 50/50 balls Cross - do not recognize her ! huge step up from last year - quicker, better decisions, and making tough shots MacCormack - a very pleasant surprise at 5'3" stepping into D.1 ball - good handle and can make the 3 pt shot

Have to admit I was a little concerned about this season after last weekend. Nice job righting the ship by all concerned.

Hope Allen comes back. Given Davis missed a season in high school due to back problems, hope that didn't flare up again.

Davis being out for the season hurts. But it's a short season so depth is slightly less important this year than most years.

I am not familiar with Davis's play. Is she someone who might redshirt?

Medical red shirt where you spend a fifth year at an undergraduate college and take a second liberal arts major so you can play one more year of PL WBB? Mary Rose Campbell did it but I can't think of anyone else. I remember BG saying at a coaches night that college basketball is important to college age women but generally not as important as it is to college age men culturally. He cited as evidence the greater perceived status a male student gains by being a walk-on than a female student gains. I took his word for it as it sounded reasonable.
We have had fifth year football players and some like Dom Randolph, Peter Pujals, Jimmy Murray have used that year to move on to NFL training camps.
But I think if an HC WBB athlete develops into a great player it is more likely that another school benefits from a medical red shirt via graduate transfer than HC. Three good playing years at HC would be very good, however.

Is the NCAA rule change (temporary) adding a year of eligibility only for football and men's basketball?
And is that extra year only if you play in 2020-21? Otherwise, this player could play for someone in 2025-6 ! I doubt that's the case.

The rule change is for all fall and winter sports athletes. I do not know if it is only for those who actually play in a contest. It may not since I believe it applies to the Ivies who have not played any sport.

Davis will be eligible for a medical redshirt year since she will not play in any contests this season. From my understanding, this would NOT prohibit her from using the additional year of eligibility all winter (not just basketball specific) athletes received due to the pandemic. There is nothing specific in the NCAA release that says medical redshirts would not qualify for the "bonus" year.
So she could medical redshirt this season, then still have 5 years of play left (4 + bonus year).
The Ivy League is it's own animal since many of their conference rules are much more restrictive than NCAA rules.

If that happened (don't really think it will, one way or the other), the freshmen in 2025-6 will be calling her "Mom". I believe due to the injury and the transfer to a private school, she's a year older than a normal freshman to begin with.

She could play three years at HC and two years elsewhere.

Thanks. Next question...has anyone here seen her play and, if you have, what do you think of her ability and development potential?

That’s a ridiculous hypothetical - she’s been hurt from day one - obviously no one has that answer - just be patient until next fall

Now hear from New England Crusaders Head Coach, Kim Benzan, on what she had to say about Steph! Where did you first see Steph play? I first saw Steph play at a tryout. She was very athletic and had high energy. She stood out because she played incredibly hard. She was skilled, but lots of the players were skilled. She rebounded, she defended, played unselfishly and scored the ball. Most importantly, I loved how positive she was with the other girls at the tryout, most of whom she did not know.
