A few things people should know about this government report:
1. All else being equal, state schools will have lower budgets since a major factor in the expenses is tuition, room, and board. Obviously that number is much higher for most private schools x 13.
2. Teams that travel a lot will have a high expense - even if all of those expenses are reimbursed by TV networks or by a tournament. If a reimbursed trip costs $75,000, that number will go into the expense bucket - and the reimbursement will go into the revenue bucket.
3. A team that gets into a postseason tournament will have higher expenses - a few days of hotels and meals, plus the cost of a charter, etc. It is reimbursed, but that doesn't help on the expense side.
4. Several factors involving coaches' reimbursement can affect the number dramatically. For example, if a prior coach is still collecting a paycheck, that is an expense. A buyout in the current year can be a major expense. Some coaches get dramatic payments into a retirement plan (e.g. Ralph Willard in his later years).
5. Teams that play in a big arena they don't own will have higher expenses since they usually pay a significant fee to rent the arena.
6. Almost all midmajors and some majors will show expenses and revenue that are identical. That means that the program lost money and that there was a university reimbursement to balance the budget.
7. Teams that had a number of late transfers who weren't replaced will have lower expenses.

Wow, Fordham pays 5 million a year to have a horrible team and play in a gym from the 40s?
And, most of PPs valid points don't apply to them (#1 certainly does). Maybe they were still paying a coach off during the year the writer did his research, but the current coach has been there 5 years, so one would think not.

Wow, Fordham pays 5 million a year to have a horrible team and play in a gym from the 40s? One factor for Fordham is heavy travel expenses in most years. Fordham had a long trip to the Virgin Islands - plus trips to Richmond, St. Louis, Olean, Pittsburgh, Dayton, Charlotte, D.C., and a few others. Also the pay scale for coaches is high, of course, in NYC. Looking further, it appears that the most current Equity in Athletics report is from the 2018-19 season. Bucknell that year had a trip that went first to Columbus OH, then to S.F. (St. Mary's), then five days in Honolulu for the Diamond Head Classic. All of that was reimbursed by Ohio State and by the tournament - but it really ran up the expense side of the ledger.

The points were mine, not PP, and I agree with you that many don't apply to Fordham. The writer, btw, did zero research. Merely listed U.S. govt stats reported to them by the individual schools.

Just guessing, but H-Y-P being pretty low on the list (and well below HC and other PL teams) suggests that salaries of endowed coaches aren’t calculated into expenses.

A big factor is that Ivy's don't have scholarships. That saves them close to $1 Million each. Salaries of endowed coaches should be included.

Apologies....I saw a long list and by force of habit, attributed it to our #1 researcher!
