UConn men on pause again - one of the refs from last night's game vs. Butler has tested positive - their games vs. Villanova and St. John's are on the shelf Just amazing how things have only deteriorated in recent weeks Made me look at UConn's schedule. They've done an incredible job dealing with this Prior to this, they cancelled on OOC game and postponed 6 conference games. Of the 6 conference games, two have already been made up and 3 have a firm date rescheduled. Only one game prior to this was in limbo and that was only last week. Tomorrow's Villanova game had already been postponed once

If that is correct, then it is Connecticut's decision - probably an overabundance of caution given that the ref was wearing a mask and a number of studies have shown that on-court transmission is rare.

So they have no cases in athletics and they are still taking a vacation?
Doesn't hurt us at least; we've got someone to play. If they don't come out of the basement next week, however, it's gotta go to the makeup weekend.

Great photographs, admissible as evidence in 50 states. Virus transmission is low while wearing a mask and almost automatic while wearing a chin diaper if you are positive and don't know it. The ideal response by the coaching community would be to make a pact to ratchet down the in game huffing and puffing for the duration of the pandemic, do your coaching during game prep and practice and sit back and let the players play during the game. You can still make substitutions but just cut out the animation that makes correct mask wearing uncomfortable until everyone is vaccinated next season.

You're not directing those comments to the sideline roadrunner at Holy Cross are you?

Let me see, our last coach drew criticism because he was not animated enough on the sidelines. Now we hear the current coach is too animated. Is there some magic amount of movement? I doubt it. When a team wins, the amount of motion of the coach becomes moot. I hope that is soon the case.

A few days ago I made the observation that Brett and Milán were very animated on the sidelines and Ralph and Bill were much more sedate (outwardly, anyway). This was not intended as a reflection of their capabilities but observed the two coaches first mentioned were much younger than the other two who were more experienced.
I was not the only person on this board to notice this. The announcers of at least one game on ESPN+ also commented that they thought Brett was ready to enter the game.
While running the sidelines probably doesn’t have a lot to do with his coaching abilities, I believe in 1+ seasons Brett has won but 5 games.
I’m still looking for an expert opinion on how is Brett’s game coaching. Not looking for what he does incorrectly but rather what he handles well after the tip off.

In general I admire a coach who can build a game plan in the film room and teach it on the practice court and then contain him or herself on game day and coach effectively in a calm, controlled manner for maximum effectiveness. Extra physical animation or higher volume risks rattling the players and may be counter productive. Think former coach BG in the second half of a game when his voice was frayed to a frenetic squeaky rasp coming through the radio speaker and clashing with the dulcet tones of Mr. Entertainment Bob Fouracre. A capital offense IMO.

Still crickets in response to that very reasonable request. People are busy now that everything has opened up.

Just every UConn game I watch for five minutes, I see Hurley screaming at refs with his mask down and players. I wonder why UConn MBB has had at least three pauses to their season for COVID already.

So much so that there was a national ad of him getting thrown out of a bar for arguing with a ref about whether Lite beer was less filling or tasted great

Great commercials-terrible beer. The commercials enabled Miller to position light beer as suitable for rugged men, instead of being a sissy's drink. Decades before Marlboro did the same when it used the American Cowboy to project masculinity for filtered cigarettes when "real men" were smoking non-filtered cigs.

Thanks for the link. I enjoyed seeing that again. Cousy also did a couple of ads. Part of the compensation was two cases of Miller Lite per month delivered to your front door for something like 10 years. During my years at HC I was sometimes given the task of making the delivery to the Cousy household

During my years at HC I was sometimes given the task of making the delivery to the Cousy household Entertaining ad...but were the two cases of Miller Lite his "compensation" or was having to drink them really a "punishment" for making the ad supporting something that was not really a quality brew?

Wonder if they had heated conversations about who would get to yell "less filling!" vs "tastes great!" in the commercials.

Looks like Kentucky is now on pause as Covid has struck the team. Most likely the cause for all their failures this season.

Maybe it’s a team manage with a false positive timed up with playing Texas, Mizzou and Tenn this week. (We call that pulling a “Bucknell” )
