Watched my first minutes of HC live action today while babysitting my one year old daughter. I like where this team is headed when it comes to the rest of this season and next. The youngsters are getting valuable minutes but not averaging 35 PPG on their way to UNC-Whatever or Directional Michigan next year. Good mix of productive leadership with Gates and Butler pacing the upperclassmen, along with the likes of Wade and RJ Johnson getting meaningful floor time. I really like Johnson -- he could be a good one. Maybe an Anthony Thompson with a jump shot? Trust me ny - you better hope your daughter's mom doesn't see this.

If she files for divorce, you picked the wrong person anyway and better to know sooner than later. But, yeah, if you are the father, you technically were not babysitting: babysit [ˈbābēˌsit] VERB look after a child or children while the parents are out.

Very frustrating to watch our performance on the hardwood yesterday in the first half! We just didn't come to play! Don't know whether we were not prepared for what Lehigh was doing defensively, we were just flat out bad, couldn't throw the ball in the ocean, etc., etc.
What changed, was said, during halftime? Whatever happened we were an entirely different team in the second half. I thoroughly agree with efg72's comments on the previous page especially "not running much offensively for anybody". Maybe it's the combination of many young inexperienced players trying to mesh with 2 experienced players and some players forcing things trying to do too much! Perhaps this season during the Covid era is a good thing for our team because this is the way I look at it: we have 16 (and perhaps 1 or 2 more) scrimmages to figure things out going into next year...

We ran effective offense, constantly getting the ball on the low post to Faw, the high post to Gates, and at the end to open corner threes 14 unforced turnovers are not he result of bad offense, but player judgment.

I hesitate to say anything in disagreement with you given my tremendous respect for your knowledge and experience, so I will offer a look at it from a different lens/perspective and say PERHAPS BUT Yes unforced Turnovers and sloppy passing were nightmares But Getting the ball into Faw was more of a entry 6-8-10 feet away and he made a move to take his baby hook. The high post is open for Gates until he proves he can score from that space, and yesterday he was successful and if he continues to score from 12-16’ feet that should offer him and the offense many more opportunities moving forward. Perhaps We got good looks at threes because until RJ hit rwo at the end We hit one by Faw early in the first half and one by Montgommery early in the 2 and half-- I think going into the last 8 min we were 3-11 from 3 so that might be an explanation, and maybe not. The weave up top is the beginning of an offensive set, but when two or three players off the ball remain stationary there isn't much execution of an offense- it resembles something you run with elite college or NBA talent. At our level I think more is needed in terms of structure and still allow for creativity. Will a ball reversal or screens and movement off the ball open up lanes and give some semblance of an offense-perhaps but if not, other teams seemed to have enjoyed some success attacking us with those offensive approaches. The talent on the floor is better than it has been for a few years, and perhaps the offense we are running today will be effective and ideal for the future teams. Perhaps this is the way Nelson wants to play, it might help him recruit better players, and by next year with maturity and additional talent it will generate better results. But until we get there days like yesterday might be repeated

MAYBE a month from now, if MF commits a silly foul late in a close game, it will only be his third or fourth foul.....because Louth and/or Rabs will have given him some backup earlier in the game. That's what I'm hoping for. New day today!

Hope we show up and the bench can contribute today! Also, hope the refs stop with the ticky-tack fouls and let them play! The touch fouls and monitor reviews make for a boring event!

Not sure what would fly in a D1 game, but a great trick of mine when playing around the paint and a player liked to be physical on the defensive side and flop and wag their head around on the offensive end: while I was defending, the next time they came across the paint to the strong side or to screen away weak side, I would put (kind verb) my elbow into their ribs and yell THAT'S A FOUL. Either they would be a bit more forced on the offensive end next time, get them off their game, or the ticky tack flopping would tend not to get called next time. Worth the foul to prove a point. Don't bring no weak sauce up in here.

I certainly wasn't around to follow basketball in the 70s, but that's a great story. Sometimes just talking about it got the trick across: "Are we going to play the game or are we going to play games?" Other personal challenges might get the point across. But "gamesmanship" in that sense, oh, we're not going to tolerate that. If you need the ref's help, then you're going to NEED the ref's help.

I am discouraged about getting swept by the pre-season #9, 1-5 Lehigh.
I'd be hitting the bottle pretty hard if the NCAA hadn't waived Gates' requirement to sit a year after transferring

I just read that Lehigh bused to Worcester Saturday morning - even more disappointing that we lost that game There have been numerous W's this season by visiting teams that traveled the day of the game - I wonder if there will be more of that even after covid has passed

As far as Saturday games go, a lot of it is having the guys off campus away from "distractions". I hope in the post COVID world, we'll have lots of distractions again
Once upon a time, I think the football team stayed in a hotel the night before home games
