There's never been a consensus among the 5 Patriot League schools not named Lehigh or Lafayette who the season ending matchup(s) should be; instead agreeing that the final game rotates.
And I don't see that as capitulation to Lehigh and Lafayette; just that Ihe schools can't agree just who their respective rival is.

Wouldn’t a nice, spirited on-court brawl with any one of our regular opponents pretty much instantaneously create a rivalry? Not that I’d ever advocate for anything like that.

^ Hard pass on both. And rivalries aren't forced, they are built over decades. I don’t see BC, PC, UConn and UMass walking through the doors of the Hart Center any time soon. Also, those were rivalries that had be started by powers that be, at some point. You have to start somewhere. I disagree. The powers that be might have scheduled BC as the last football game of the season and twice a year in basketball when we were independent, but the fans and the players start all rivalries. Probably more fans and the players get into it by feeding off the fan energy. Powers that be don't start rivalries. If they did, the Turnpike Trophy wouldn't be a punchline on this board. These things develop over time. When I was at HC there was excitement for the BC game because we were told from those that went before we were supposed to be excited. Fans are going to need regular and meaningful games to feel a sense of rivalry. In the 21st century, that will never happen with an out of conference opponent.

Only if one of the players mother doesn't march onto the court and pull her son out of the brawl. Totally kills the spirited nature of the brawl

I remember a game not too long ago that had the vibe of a rivalry game: the night Willard and Flannery were nose to nose, with AK34 coming off the floor with blood on his face, letting out a roar (and the crowd going nuts). Ah, those were the days....

Ah, those were the days.... Not sure it was that game or another Bucknell one when Flannery was screaming in Ralph’s direction during play. Ralph looked around, wondering who Pat was screaming at. Finally figured that Flannery was screaming at him. I asked Ralph after the game why Flannery was screaming at him. Ralph had no idea.
