I prefer to say that having no knowledge of hookers being provided for recruits gives you a worse reputation in the public eye than having no knowledge of academic fraud. I hope you let me use that one. I've got a sanctimonious UNC grad cousin I'd love to drop this on.

Came across to me as a blast to Italian Americans where you write consonants are better than vowels.

Unless the search of a thread doesn't work the way I think it does- one slipped through the cracks.
SJ State hired a new coach yesterday.....replacing old nemesis Jean Prioleau; who got let go (or "Gibbonsed", i.e. not renewed) quite a while ago.

Came across to me as a blast to Italian Americans where you write consonants are better than vowels. That was the way the original post looked to me as well; just chose to respond to it in a different manner. In fact my comment was the opposite. Irony. It was a blast against the many who singled out Italian-Americans for criticism while ignoring the unethical behavior of others. Calipari & Pitino get highlighted and constantly mentioned in the media for their corrupt practices (neither should coach at HC) while at the same time nothing/little is said or written about other equally corrupt coaches such as Huggins, Williams and many others. In fact these other coaches are lionized. It is quite prevalent to overllook or minimize the corruption of those with consonants while at the same time bemoaning the corruption of the vowel people. Why? Could there possibly be a cultural bias? Corrupt practices are widespread in the big time college sports industry. My comment was meant to be ironic. I do apologize for any lack of clarity on my part.

Think you're reading a bit too much into it mm67.
Not sure Williams or Huggins or any other "scoundrel" coaches are being lionized on this board. Can't say I've ever seen anyone praise Williams here. Other than playing against a Roy Williams Kansas team in the 2002 NCAAs, there is precious little connection between HC, many posters here, and Williams or Huggins.
Pitino and to a lesser extent Calipari are much more closely connected to HC and posters
for Pitino by his personal relationship with Ralph Willard and how his behavior led to the departure of a highly successful coach at HC
for Calipari a vacated Final Four at the flagship state university where the college and many posters are located and a long history of competition equals more interest on this board,
If after a couple of years away from coaching, Roy Williams or Bob Huggins suddenly say publicly they were interested in trying to come back to coach and were "interested" in the job at Holy Cross (a year after it was actually open), it would get a very similar reception on this board.

Points well taken. Thank you. Maybe, I read too much into it in the media. In my experience (& choice of colleges) one of the attractions of HC (&others) is its integrity. It is reassuring that students, alums, & yes, players on various teams have a special school we can all be proud of.

Good points. I will also point out the multiple vacated final fours make Pitino and Calipari's transgressions more famous than anything Williams or Huggins did. The punishment is right out there and doesn't go away. I don't remember what penalty UNC got for the academic fraud. Probably banned from the tournament for a period of time. It just doesn't stick to the memory like a vacated Final Four

This board is more harsh to Pitino and Calipari than Williams because they were publicly punished in a way that people will remember and Williams was not. I think these basketball issues are the sole reason the board is critical of these two coaches

Speedy Clayton named new head coach at Hofstra after Joe Mihalik steps down due to “health issues”. Joe Mihalich had a serious medical issue which ended his coaching career. Putting "health issues" in quotes is beyond disrespectful, especially for someone as well like and respected as Mihalich

Speedy Claxton named new head coach at Hofstra after Joe Mihalch steps down due to “health issues”. Joe Mihalich had a stroke which ended his coaching career. Putting "health issues" in quotes is beyond disrespectful, especially for someone as well like and respected as Mihalich I have been a season ticket holder of Hofstra for over 12 years and have been a strong supporter of Mihalich and the job he has done rebuilding the program there. Every news report I have read over the last 6 months concerning his status as coach, including the article in yesterday's NY Post, has referred to Joe's stepping down due to "unspecified health reasons".
How you think my reference to this is disrespectful is beyond me. In fact, some might say that your mentioning that Joe apparently had a stroke is revealing a confidence that Joe did not want out there in the media or chat boards.

Fair enough. I will edit my original post. However, the guy won one tournament and three regular season titles in six years taking over a program that was driven into the ground by Mo Cassara. Based on those results, I am fairly confident that he would remain the head coach heading into next season if he were physically able. Putting "health issues" in quotes implies that the school, in actuality fired him, but are using a questionable health issue to make both parties look good.
