Grasso ain't jumping from the best squad in the NEC to the worst in A10. I wouldn’t be so sure. He was 7-11 in the NEC his first two years. Obviously things have picked up this year but hard to say no to any A-10 job from the NEC particularly when you’ve had one good year out of three. He knows Fordham well from his time there and may believe he can make it work.

Nobody leaves Smithfield, RI for the Big Apple.

I know someone who went from Cranston to the Big Apple, which I define as Manhattan, not the Bronx. But, that's just me.

I should think the pay at Fordham would be 2X Bryant's pay. I do understand that the cost of living would be higher in NY

My high school alma mater . . . . but when it was a great school in Smithtown. [I'm being sarcastic] No, because he lived for a number of years before RI in NY metro area. But, while you were joking, real story: I had a 1970 Classmate from Minnesota (a great medical doctor now), who went during a long break and stayed at a fellow classmate's house in Westchester. Never having been to NYC, Westchester classmate (now a cardiologist, guess these pre-meds stuck together), takes MN classmate to see the "Big Apple." We get back from vacation and Dr. Westchester tells us, "you should have seen him!!! He's standing on the sidewalk staring up saying 'I can't believe they can make them that tall!.' It was embarrassing." We laughed our @$$es off. Oh, Dr. MN was the same guy who came back from a trip downtown Worcester and was aghast when he held the door for the lady behind him as he went into Denholm & McKay's (think that's the spelling of the defunct department store) and said " I can't believe it! When I held the door, she grabbed her pocketbook like I was going to steal it!" He had a hard time with city life in the Northeast.

Grasso is from Suffolk County, Long Island Played at St. Anthony’s in South Huntington If he played at St. A there's a pretty solid chance he's played in the Rose Hill gym in the past. Fordham Prep plays a few home games there and I know that recently the CHSAA has hosted league championship games there as well.

Shaheen Holloway would make a lot of sense for Fordham. He has done a very nice job at St. Peter's which is probably the toughest job in the MAAC. Native New Yorker who had a pretty storied high school career and who had a very good collegiate career at Seton Hall.

IMO Shaheen will wait for a job where he has a much better chance to win Fordham is in the wrong conference with the oldest gym in the country, a very tough sell to desirable recruits

Rose Hill is only the second oldest gym, however, being newer than Northeastern’s. Still won’t help recruiting.

The only gym from antiquity I see having any influence on a young basketball player is Hinkle Field House; and that's only if the kid saw Hoosiers.
I doubt our friend Nick's blowout loss to Umass in the 90s is remembered by anyone other than Holy Cross, thanks to Jean Prioleau. The previous NCAA trip was with Digger in 1971; remembered fondly by recruits' grandparents.

Northeastern’s Matthews Arena (formerly Boston Arena) is a multi-purpose arena in Boston, Massachusetts. It is both the oldest arena still in use for ice hockey and the oldest multi-purpose athletic building still in use in the world. It opened in 1910. Rose Hill Gymnasium is a 3,200-seat multi-purpose arena on the Rose Hill campus of Fordham University in The Bronx, New York City, New York. The arena, which opened in 1925, is the oldest on-campus venue currently used primarily for an NCAA Division I basketball team[1] and the second-oldest overall (with the oldest being Northeastern University's Matthews Arena, opened in 1910 and currently used for its basketball and hockey teams). Fordham's volleyball team also used the gym. Based on th Wiki citation, Matthews is not on the NU campus, however it is still the oldest facility being used by an NCAA team(s). en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthews_Arenaen.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Hill_Gymnasium

Would Pitino jump from Iona to go to Fordham? A-10 is higher profile league than MAAC. Would Fordham hire him? If he could get Fordham competitive it could get him an offer from a major conference school.

Pitino is in his first year at Iona. I don't think it would be very honorable to jump ship now

Hopefully, Fordham's been smart enough to not let it go seeing as there don't seem to be any replacment plans on the horizon. Matthews has undergone major renovations 3 times. Not the same place in many respects. The building is off campus, yes, but closer to the campus than Mulledy would be to Fitton; 100% sure of that.

In 2017, the University initiated a massive two-phase project—the most significant renovation to date. The first phase involved replacing all lower spectator seating; new bleachers with a seating capacity of 3,470 were installed, while chair back seats were placed behind the team benches.
Then just a few days after Fordham’s 2019 commencement, the second phase of renovations began. In roughly four-and-a-half months, the University, in collaboration with Caldwell & Walsh Building Construction, Inc. completely replaced the gym’s flooring system with a modern alternative. The new state-of-the-art wood surface contains shock-absorbing materials that reduce strain on student-athletes’ bodies, as well as a waterproof membrane that keeps moisture away.

If he could get Fordham competitive it could get him an offer from a major conference school. Doubtful. First of all it is much tougher to win at Fordham. Secondly, he is no doubt using Iona as a steppingstone to rehabilitate his image and then try to get a job in a major conference again. I doubt he would want to switch jobs and start the image rebuild all over again. Fordham is not the job he wants to end up with.
