One of my sisters has lived In Bronxville for years and passed by Concordia and just assumed it was a Catholic, not Lutheran, college.
Always safe for me to hear of any college closing, especially one that’s been around well over 200 (typo!) 100 years.
Good for Iona.

There are multiple colleges named Concordia scattered throughout the US., the most notable probably being the one in Minnesota. All of them are Lutheran.

My wife is from Bronxville. IIRC it is only one square mile. It's high school has been in a number of movies because of its classic appearance. Because of Bronxville's proximity to NYC real estate is very pricey. Sarah Lawrence is also in Bronxville. The Concordia property is worth a fortune.

Indeed, Bronxville touts it is 1 square mile and had (still has?) the highest number of Fortune 500 CEOs residing there than any other town/city in the country. Not per capita, actual numbers. I'm still waiting for my '60 brother-in-law to get a building named after him, or the family as 2 of their sons are also alums, atop Mt. St. James. Running against that is they have the most common last name in the English language and there are already a couple of structures with the same last name at Holy Cross.

He can get away with claiming they're named after him. Most students can't come up with the first name of 3/4 the buildings on campus. Too late now, but I bet 20 years ago I could have convinced some students that Carlin was named after a famous comedian with ties to the school. Now I'd get a "George who?"

I tried to find out Concordia's endowment but I could not find it on the NACUBO site. I'm guessing it is minuscule. What happens to the proceeds of the sale to Iona? Where does the $$ go?

Often the bylaws of a nonprofit address the disposition of the assets when the charity is dissolved. Similarly, gift agreements for endowment gifts can make such provisions.

Yes--maybe the $$$ goes to the Lutheran Church or some entity that sits over the various Concordias

Most students can't come up with the first name of 3/4 the buildings on campus. First names of the buildings on campus? Easy ... Building Last Name | Building First Name (Middle Name) | Hall | Fenwick | Hall | O'Kane | Library | Dinand | Hall | Beaven | Hall | Wheeler | Chapel | St. Joseph (Memorial) | Hall | Alumni | Hall | Kimball (aka Ma Kimball) | Hall | Carlin | Center | Hogan (Campus) | Hall | Loyola | Hall | O'Neil | Hall | Haberlin |
And for the collection of resident halls on Easy Street

And I'm told by my wife that it is common for those living just outside the town's boundaries to jockey (don't ask me how) to get a Bronxville address for all that brings with it. No offense to Yonkers but I understand why Sarah Lawrence would want a Bronxville address.

Sounds like Iona will retain the campus property, so it's not like the land is going on the market or getting redeveloped (anytime soon, at least... Iona's long-term viability is far from assured, itself.)

Is the entire Concordia plot of land being used? Maybe there is some fallow area that Iona will indeed sell off.

My brother had a self storage locker in Holliston, Mass. but it was right near the Sherborn town line, a much wealthier community. He loved to say he was bringing something over to his place in Sherborn.

No offense to Yonkers but I understand why Sarah Lawrence would want a Bronxville address. As a Yonkers born-and-bred, offense taken!
This was always such a popular thing for people to do, and if you browse Trulia or Redfin et al today, it's still advertised as a selling point. "Live in Yonkers, but don't let anybody who sends you a postcard know that you live in Yonkers!" My dad still barks to this day about everyone who lives in Crestwood-- "YEAH? Well, who's the mayor of Crestwood? When your house burns down, Yonkers FD shows up!"
That area is on the border, and if you walk down the hill "into town" from Sarah Lawrence, that is the Bronxville train station. Then again, if you walk up the hill, you end up at Cross County, very clearly and notoriously in Yonkers. Either way (especially now as a lot of it has been built up/cleaned up with even more stores) a student is pretty safe for the most part walking around there. I can't recommend that about all places in Yonkers.

And for the collection of resident halls on Easy Street I wonder if that Hall guy is hiring, or at a minimum, can give me some career advice. He must be cleaning up!
