As a true George Carlin fan, I found just about every one of his routines priceless. I put him just ahead of Bob Newhart and Shelly Berman.

I remember it well...very well. Thanks for kick-starting that memory.  Carlin's "observational humor" was the best. I recall his speaking about the sign in post offices that read "No dogs allowed, except seeing-eye dogs." The sign was inside of the glassine the front door. He asked "Who is supposed too read that? The dog?" Newhardt would take events from history (like the griper in the Revolutionary War) and give them a totally unexpected, but somehow familiar spin. The best? Hard to say! You may well be right. |

There was indeed. Fr. Chuck Connolly, SJ who, IIRC, was Dean of Housing our freshman year.
Back then, if you solved a puzzle on Wheel of Fortune, you went shopping and would buy things from prize showcases that included things like furniture, trips, and jewelry with the money you earned from spinning the wheel. Fr. Connolly solved one or 2 puzzles and got to go shopping. As a Jesuit, of course, everything he won went to the order.
At the time, the Band would present someone - typically from the campus community - with the Mickey Mouse of the Week Award by describing the person's "accomplishment" and playing the theme to the Mickey Mouse Club.
And of course, the week Fr. Connolly won on Wheel, he was named the Mickey Mouse of the of the Week for NOT buying ... the hot tub!
And yes, a hot tub was one of the items he could have bought as he had enough money to do so.

One of my daughters lives in Bronxville and all four of her kids have taken music lessons at Concordia. My wife and I have attended numerous of their recitals there over the years. So, I'm sorry to see this news. |

Sounds like Iona will retain the campus property, so it's not like the land is going on the market or getting redeveloped (anytime soon, at least... Iona's long-term viability is far from assured, itself.) Although it borders White Plains Road, a fairly busy thoroughfare, it is a choice location without doubt. |
