Most VALUABLE player is not the same as BEST player, is it?
It's the guy or gal that contributes the most to the success of his or her team, IMHO.

Absolutely. That's why I don't like it when I guy like Mike Trout (who is the best player) can win the award on a team that finishes 2nd to last and 35 games out of first. I guess he kept them out of the cellar

As a Yankees fan, I always liked Pedroia. He overcame a lot of odds to be as good as he was at his size. Seemed to play hard and the right way and wasn’t a jerk as far as I could tell. If he was, I don’t want to know.

Here's my Pedroia story. My nephew Mike worked for the Portland Sea Dogs a couple of summers- I think he swept off the bases between innings and did other in-game maintenance. He and his buddy are out working in the infield and a ball rolls up and Mike snaps a nice throw back to one of the players. I'll paraphrase the ensuing dialogue. His buddy says something like "Nice throw, Mike, maybe you'll get called up by the Red Sox". Mike responds "Yeah, I'm just what the Red Sox are looking for, a 5 foot 9 inch infielder". One of the players hears this and says: "Well, as a matter of fact, I hope that's exactly what they are looking for". It was Dustin Pedroia... He's closer to 5'7' and Altuve is 5'5".

Pedey appeared to have started balding in the womb and never looked like a big leaguer, but he sure played like one.
