The Assumption game exposed coach Carmody'S biggest worries about our team: rebounding and 3point shooting. As the self-appointed keeper of the Red-Yellow-Green light for three point shooters, this is a subject I follow closely. Here's how I see the players Malachi Alexander: can be very, very good to outstanding as demonstrated by .422 pctg as a soph and .439 last year. MA's light is solid green Robt Champion: Robert gets the green light as a "decent" three point shooter (I remember one particular shot...) as he shot at .382 as a soph and .360 last season. Anthony Thompson: as ever an enigma--shot an outstanding .414 as a freshman and then his injuries or other causes had him shooting a woeful.288 as a soph and .256 last season. If he can return to freshman conversion rate then he has a bright green light by all means. If he cannot regain his shot and struggles as he did the past two years then the light is bright red. Matt Husek--showed a nice touch last year at .362 so he has the green light to take shots opportunistically, but I want him closer to the basket most of the time Karl Charles-- was under .300 as a freshman (MA was .207 as a frosh, RC .271) but many struggle as frosh and become good shooters. Let's see what he does in first 25 attempts Matt Zig-- .328 is pretty good for a freshman--have high hopes that MZ will be a very good three point weapon for the next three years so he has the green light I need to see more of the remaining players before making a decision on them

I would like to see the team have new warm up jackets, those gray tee shirts that they are wearing look awful. Even Assumption had warm-ups with the word HOUNDS on their shirts or jackets that they had. Wish they would work with my company we would make them look much better than those. Stuck with Adidas contract, got to go with them

After Bucknell, I think Champion deserves at least an honorary solid green

Something else that proved out in the Assumption game was Coach Carmody's opinion that Benzan and Floyd are the most improved players this year.

One of the few things I took out of Carmody's recent interview on the Coaches Show was that he seemed high on Benzan. Happy for him that it seems like he'll be part of the rotation this year.

Something else that proved out in the Assumption game was Coach Carmody's opinion that Benzan and Floyd are the most improved players this year. I see that as a huge huge plus for us. JF is a shot blocking machine and I think Coach said something along the lines of "he can do some things that other players just cannot do" in the coaches show the other night. PB was a huge scorer in high school as I recall (yes, different level of competition than he faces in college) and it was good to see him score so well in the exhibition.

PB played so little last year that I have no idea what his potential is. His stats last night were encouraging. Next up So Carolina and Syracuse

I am concerned that we had only 8 assists on 22 FG AT--0 assists in 33 mins Doesn't sound right if we had 40 points in the paint: what I feel are the most impressive team stats of the night.

The Assumption game exposed coach Carmody'S biggest worries about our team: rebounding and 3point shooting. I would not panic quite yet. we attempted only 11 threes., shot 2-5 in the second half. aand I believe that taking 39 twos to 11 threes, especially when facing a weaker opponent, is a good proportion as bison pointed out our defensive rebounding was about the nation's average.

Yes, it was an exhibition and the opponent was a D-2 team but we won easily even with a key player on the sideline. Shouldn't we be encouraged by this exhibition game?

A few thought from last night. ..HC played a 2-3 all night. They did run a few gadgets. One sequence had PB on the baseline, rotating up to the wing , turning it to a 3-2. and then he followed an Assumption player thru the lane to the opposite baseline corner..I have no idea what CBC has them doing... ..Champion really stepped up his game, he looks like he is poised to take over the team. ..Rebounding is very low on CBC's agenda...Make shots is his mantra. ..Assumption got a number of offensive rebounds on air balls, when 2 defenders attacked the shooter. ..HC turned over Assumption frequently, and did not turn the ball over much. That is a winning combo. ..PB and JF both brought a lot of energy to the floor. JF could be a force in the low post. He made a few good moves for hoops and played with confidence, as did PB.. ..KC was shooting and making 3's in the pre-game warm-up. Looks like he will be ready for SC... ..Clayton LeSann looks like he can give the team some minutes. He is very thin.. ..The Hart Center looks great! I really like the way the lanes are stained a rich brown. NO PAINT! They look like an executives desk top! The lobby area and the upstairs areas are very nice. Quite a different feel to the old barn! ..No banners hanging from the walls or rafters yet. Sunday December 11th is banner raising day!!!

Maybe the defense is a matchup It was strange to see PB move around and the other 4 really didn't change positions or follow an offensive player...It was some kind of junk D....and no show of the 1-3-1...CBC keeping it in his back pocket!

It was great to see the team on the court last night. The Hart did look pretty nice with all the cosmetic upgrades. I'm not sure if the plastic seats are any easier on the ass than the wooden bleachers, but the aisles are a huge improvement in the bleachers. Looked they lost a good number of seats, including about 60 prime chairbacks, where I'm assuming they put in a wheelchair accessible area. The team played a little ragged with a lot of missed FTs and up close bunnies/tip-ins; took very good care of the ball though. Re AT's stats, I'd say he didn't handle the ball any more than anyone else on the court - less than some. Agree that RC, JF, and PB probably had the best games. AT knocked down a smoooooth 3. MA was solid all the way through. MZ had a nifty assist and a hustle O-rebound. It looked like the splint on KC's finger was much smaller than what he had at the open practice. Agree that the 2-3 was the defense du noir, but I did see a couple 1-3-1 possessions and another alignment that I couldn't decipher - probably not a match up. The size differential between us and Assumption was dramatic. I'm going to try to attach a couple short videos I took - one each offensive and defensive possession in the 2nd half - but I'm not too optimistic that I can pull it off.
No can do - attachments too big.

I was at the game, here is my thoughts. - Free throw shooting was atrocious. This always scares me. MA was awful, but this is hopefully an aberration.
- Missing wide open Threes, never seems to be a strong suit with Holy Cross.
- PB was good, although I don't think he shot an outside shot, drove basket well and showed a lot of agressiveness
- MA was good, but I was hoping that he would take over more. I want to see the MA from the playoffs last year, where he just dominated.
- AT handles the ball well, but his skill set does not work well with the Princeton Offense.
- JF looks good, a couple of nice steals, blocks, very athletic. Needs to continue to work on offense and will get in foul trouble a lot.
- RC looked to take charge. Did not shoot it well, but will be the leader of this team.
- MZ looked the same as last year.
- Lack of Freshman playing time was disappointing.
- CLS Played a lot, did not look lost, but did not standout either.
- TC looks really skinny. I hoped he would be another KC but his lack of playing time, tells you he is not ready.
Overall Meh, The team needs KC and hopefully he has made a big leap forward. First 4 games will be tough...

How about some goholycross.com highlights from the game? How about some type of Men''s Basketball content to get people excited for the season? We have the defending PL champs playing in a "new" arena with the season starting in 8 days, yet there has not been any type of marketing effort to get people interested in the season, and the only glimpse that we've had into the "new" building was a 45 second teaser video.
No video from PL Media Day, no video from Coach''s Night, no preview video with short practice clips and player interviews, not a peep from Coach Carmody, no tour of the "new" arena, etc. etc. The team gained a ton of traction last March, but the Athletic Department has made no effort to maintain at least some of that interest.

That is a bit disappointing. Perhaps they are trying not to take anything away from the Ram-Crusader Cup and we will see a big push starting next weekend.
