College coaches are now allowed to contact members of the class of 2022. Holy Cross has already begun reaching out to top recruits. According to the Big Green Alert and NJ.com, Coach Toerper is already on the trail for the next class. I found this notation in the BGA and NJ.com this morning, “Nasir Hill, ATH, St. Augustine : “I spoke with Coach Koch from Northwestern, Coach Terp from Holy Cross, Coach Fein from Harvard, Coach Dobes from Dartmouth and a couple other schools as well.” www.nj.com/rutgers/2021/02/college-football-coaches-can-now-call-njs-top-class-of-2022-recruits-whose-phones-are-blowing-up.htmlAccording to his twitter page “Class of 2022 ATHLETE (Safety/Corner/Linebacker/WR/QB) 6’1 /190lbs, 6 TD’s 3 INT’s. A big play threat from anywhere!”

We are definitely a much more attractive option for these kids today than we were a few years ago. We seem particularly hot in NJ.

We are definitely a much more attractive option for these kids today than we were a few years ago. We seem particularly hot in NJ. I think I did kind of a half-baked analysis of this some time within the last year, but let's dig into it again. On the current roster we have a full 15 players from New Jersey. If I have my NJ geography right, 13 of the 15 are from Northern New Jersey.. I make the North vs South distinction to see if we need to give credit to one coach recruiter over another as the state is split between Coach Brian Vaganek (South) and Coach Michael Toerper (South). Coach Vaganek is in his fourth year at HC, but I don't know if his recruiting territory has changed from year to year. I'm aware that Northern New Jersey has higher population than Southern NJ. This is interesting--Coach Vaganek is listed as the recruiter for Northern NJ, Michigan, Northern Ohio, and Rhode Island. and I noted that of the 19 seniors on the current roster none are from his territory, Of the 71 FR-SO-JR players 20 are from his area: 13 from Northern New Jersey (assuming I got the counties right) , 2 from Cleveland, 3 from Michigan, and 2 from Rhode Island, including Brian Vaganek JR. That is one impressive record. Is Coach Vaganek largely responsible for this recruiting bonanza in his area. I can't imagine it is just due to chance. On the list of 15 new signees coming in in September are 5 NJ guys : Jarmolowich (Union CTY) and Monte (Bergen CTY) are definitely Norther NJ and 2 are southern NJ. Ryan Ruane is from Monmouth County and I don't know whether that is in Coach Vaganek's Northern area or in the South with Coach Toerper. Whatever the reason--let's keep these qualtiy NJ players heading North to Worcester.

Even those of us in NJ get confused with the North/South split in the state. BION, many would put Monmouth in North Jersey.

Based on the kids coming in, I think Vaganek is far and away the best recruiter on this team in terms of assessing talent in the way of the kids to offer and then ultimately getting them to come here. To me there is no close second.
It looks like Deandrade is connecting with some high level talent as well and Smith has been able to pull some kids from FL.
And ultimately it matters because without good talent you can't win.
