Former Worcester Academy star Judson Martindale gave Holy Cross 25 solid minutes off the bench in Sunday’s 78-60 loss to Colgate at the Hart Center.
The 6-foot-6 Martindale, one of six freshmen on the HC roster, started the first six games of the season and scored a career-high 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting in a 68-66 win over Boston University on Jan. 5.
Martindale, a 58 percent shooter his junior season at Worcester Academy, struggled from the field over HC’s next four games, going just 6 of 22, and moved into a backup role.
In Sunday’s setback to Colgate, Martindale scored 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting, had a career-high 4 rebounds, 2 blocks and a steal.
“It was good to see him make some shots,” Holy Cross coach Brett Nelson said. “He had been struggling a little bit shooting the basketball. He’s a freshman. We’ve played 10 games. Every game is a learning experience for all of our freshmen. I was really happy to see him make some good plays.
“He really tried to rebound,” Nelson said. “I’ve been challenging him to do that. I thought he made some good plays for us.”
Freshman forward Mike Rabinovich, Martindale’s classmate and teammate at Worcester Academy, is out indefinitely with an eye injury, Nelson said.
The pair helped the Hilltoppers to a runner-up finish in last year’s NEPSAC Class AA Tournament and a 22-7 record as juniors.
This weekend’s series against Army was postponed as Army remains in quarantine protocol following a positive COVID-19 test within its Tier 1. The games will be rescheduled.
