Some ideas on the remaining players
two, believe it or not, were college teammates for a year
at least two would be considered all-time NBA greats

Elgin Baylor

Lionel Simmons is among the highest total point scorers with 3,000+ but he did not average 30+
Elgin Baylor makes the list at #9 with 31.2 points per game
1= 44.8 Pete Maravich LSU
3= 33.8 Big O--Cincinnati and was #1 in total points until Pete eclipsed him
9= 31.2 Elgin Baylor U Seattle 10= 31.0 Elvin Hayes Houston
11= 30.7 Freeman Williams Portland State--also #2 in total points scored to Pistol Pete
13= 30.2 Bill Bradley Princeton
I'll provide clues after a few more guesses

Tom Gola

|
|
Post by KY Crusader 75 on Feb 8, 2021 15:01:23 GMT -5
Gola was a tremendous rebounder and a good scorer but he averaged just over 20 PPG
Remaining players
#2 played at a college attended by one of our regular posters
#4 excelled in another "sport" as well as basketball-great on the free throw line, too
#5 and #7 were college teammates in the South for one season
#6 was a classic Big 10 shooting guard
#8 played in Metro NY
#12 is an all-time NBA star-surprised our New Englanders have not guessed him

Good work, Dave
Calvin Murphy is correct and so is Rick Mount
1= 44.8 Pete Maravich LSU 2= 3= 33.8 Big O--Cincinnati and was #1 in total points until Pete eclipsed him 4= 33.1 Calvin Murphy Niagara 5= 6= 32.3 Rick Mount Purdue 7= 9= 31.2 Elgin Baylor U Seattle 10= 31.0 Elvin Hayes Houston 11= 30.7 Freeman Williams Portland State--also #2 in total points scored to Pistol Pete 12= 13= 30.2 Bill Bradley Princeton
Dave -are you sure you don't know who #12 is? He does have a tenuous connection with Holy Cross basketball

Charlie Scott averaged 22 PPG, Lanier was close at 27.6, Fly Williams averaged 28,5 and played only two seasons. McAdoo played one season for UNC

Adrian Dantley?

Dantley averaged 25.8 PPG at Notre Dame. I'll always remember HC playing at ND and Dantley taking maybe 25 free throws in the game. He is not the highest scorer in ND history, interestingly enough

"Dave -are you sure you don't know who #12 is? He does have a tenuous connection with Holy Cross basketball" This is going to bug me all night. Another guess on one of the others: Bob Petit?

#8-Nick the Quick Werkman

hchoops- no surprise that you are getting the prize on this quiz. I might have gotten Austin Carr with a number of hints but I never would have nailed Nick Werkman. I don't know much about him, but was able to look up that he was drafted in the 5th round by the Celtics but never played in the NBA
1= 44.8 Pete Maravich LSU 2= 34.6 Austin Carr Notre Dame 3= 33.8 Big O--Cincinnati and was #1 in total points until Pete eclipsed him 4= 33.1 Calvin Murphy Niagara 5= 6= 32.3 Rick Mount Purdue 7= 8= 32.0 Nick Werkman Seton Hall 9= 31.2 Elgin Baylor U Seattle 10= 31.0 Elvin Hayes Houston 11= 30.7 Freeman Williams Portland State--also #2 in total points scored to Pistol Pete 12= 13= 30.2 Bill Bradley Princeton

Larry Bird Yes Nick Werkman remember as a youngster following his battle with Jack Foley for the country's top scoring average.

Frank Selvy and Darrell Floyd from Furman, will never forget Selvy missing a wide open 15 footer in the 7th game of the finals for the Lakers against the Celtics

Tom Konchalski would have rattled these off in order, with the averages, to the tenths. A fine tribute on the day of his passing. Thanks, Ky.

In 53-54 season Selvy averaged 42 points and 14 rebounds at 6'3

I'm really surprised how long it took to get Larry..

I met Austin Carr a few years ago. He was visiting his dying high school coach in a nursing home. He had not seen his coach in almost 40 years. It was a surprise visit. The two embraced with tears upon first sight. Austin is a fine man.

A sad story that it took them 40 years to connect, but knowing Paul not a surprise. My oldest son wrote a number of articles on Coach Paul Furlong (he was at UVA) as the unspoken hero of the DC Catholic Lesgue. He was an incredibly kind and wonderful man who never sought media attention, which seemed destined to focus on Morgan Wooten (DeMatha) and Joe Gallagher (St Johns). They were dear friends, golf and Bethany Beach vacation companions, and coached summer camps together.
We had Paul to our home on a few occasions and he like many coaches was a great story teller, incredibly humble, and genuinely kind.
