Does Ezemma get credit for both a block and a steal on her recent takeaway?

HC really took their foot off the pedal the last 5 mins or so of the fourth, got sloppy & started to just chuck it up as the clock ran out. Otherwise, a well played game. Although very aggressive on D, need to avoid some of the ticky tac fouls they picked up as they appear to have a very short bench with Davis & Allen out.

Flaherty got 9 minutes. She came in early but took no shots and had 2 turnovers and 1 foul. Not a great day based on her recent play. She was the only HC player to not get at least 1 reb.

Davis they never really had; I have to think they've adjusted to that. Allen on the other hand was coming on and I hope she's back soon.

I think the future looks good. What an excellent freshman class, especially BPC. I have a growing appreciation for Ezemma. I think she's continued to improve and performs an important role on the team (rebounding, interior defense, etc.).

The announcer pointed out that Ezemma is the leading offensive rebounder in the Patriot League.

I think she's continued to improve and performs an important role on the team (rebounding, interior defense, etc.). Ezemma, Allen and BPC have the skills to be a factor in the front court at 5'11" and 5'10" in the PL. Taller players with the skills of Manis and Swords don't walk through that door every recruiting class so they are good fits for HC.

Ezemma sparks Holy Cross women's basketball past Army, 61-49 Junior records 14 points, 10 rebounds to set tone for Crusaders Jennifer Toland Telegram & Gazette
WORCESTER — Holy Cross junior forward Oluchi Ezemma suffered a shoulder injury late in the Crusaders’ game at Lehigh on Jan. 24, so the postponement of last weekend’s games against Boston University benefited Ezemma, who was able to get extra rehab and rest before the Crusaders returned to action this week against Army. With four points, two rebounds, an assist and a steal in the opening minutes of Saturday’s game at the Hart Center, Ezemma set the tone for the Crusaders early at both ends, and she finished with 14 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the year to lift HC to a 61-49 win over the Black Knights. Holy Cross coach Maureen Magarity improved to 3-0 this season against her father, Army coach Dave Magarity. Daughter and dad will go head to head again at 3 p.m. Sunday in West Point, New York. Last week, Dave Magarity announced he will be retiring at the end of the 2020-21 season. His basketball coaching career has spanned 47 years, including the last 15 leading Army. Sunday will be his last regular-season game at Christl Arena, Army’s home court. “It will be special, and it will be emotional,” Maureen Magarity said.
Army (8-8, 5-6 Patriot League) had won three straight and four of five coming into Saturday’s game, but HC again played solid defense against the Black Knights. In the three games this year, the Crusaders have held Army to an average of 45.9 points. “Communication was the key at the defensive end," Ezemma said. “We really emphasized that,” she said. “Talking on screens, making sure we’re in help, making sure we know each player and their tendencies, and executing.” Freshman guard Bronagh Power-Cassidy led Holy Cross (5-4) with 15 points. Junior guard Avery LaBarbera added 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Power-Cassidy found Ezemma inside early, Ezemma put back her own miss and later made another layup as HC raced to a nine-point lead after one quarter. Ezemma finished 6 of 11 from the field and had five offensive rebounds. She entered the game averaging 3.9 offensive boards, tops in the Patriot League and 24th nationally.
“She’s so explosive just getting to the rim,” Magarity said. “Even some of the shots she missed today were great plays, great reads and moves. She made some great passes out of double teams. I’m excited to see her take her game to the next level with her versatility.” LaBarbera led an 8-1 run to open the second quarter, and the Crusaders built the lead to 17 by halftime. “We wanted to be aggressive early,” Power-Cassidy said. “It was important for us to get in the flow at the offensive end, and when we’re aggressive on defense, things start working on offense.” In the first half, the Crusaders shot 52 percent from the floor and had 10 assists on 15 baskets. They outrebounded the Black Knights, 20-12, held Army to 1 of 11 from 3-point territory, and scored 14 points off turnovers. Holy Cross led by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter. Army outscored HC, 11-2, over the final six minutes.
“I thought our offense was really sharp,” Magarity said. “We shot the ball really well in the first half, thankfully, because that was not the case in the second (31 percent). Defensively, I’m really proud of how we were very disciplined. In the second half, it got a little bit hairy, but we just stuck to the game plan. Knowing Army was one of the hottest teams in the league coming in, I’m proud of how we defended, and I thought everyone contributed.” The Crusaders originally were scheduled to face Boston University Jan. 30-31, but the Terriers paused all athletic activities through the end of last month due to a rise in positive COVID-19 tests as the BU campus repopulated for the spring semester. Before Saturday, HC had dropped two games at Lehigh Jan. 23-24. “It definitely felt weird not having games (last week),” Power-Cassidy said, “but it made our hunger grow for a win, and we worked on bringing our intensity and execution.” —Contact Jennifer Toland at jennifer.toland@telegram.com. Have to feel pretty good about Coach Magarity at this early stage in her tenure. We have one senior. Two of our three leading scorers are freshman. We have very little size. And somehow we’re 5-4, including 5-2 against teams not named BU. Pretty impressive.

There’s a lot to like about this team. Not the least is Maureen M who is doing well despite a lack of height. Avery my favorite player on the women’s team probably since Maggie Fontana (Weber, now). The Irish Colleen is really doing well and love her free throws, such a smooth stroke. Our Ocean State contribution is coming on strong, especially rebounding and more especially, offensive boards.
So glad Avery and Miss E (does sound like the name of a cigarette boat? 😂) returning next year.

The team has ten players healthy enough to play. Everybody averages double figures in minutes played except for two who average seven and eight and a half minutes. Very appropriate for the state of development of this team and everyone will be ready if the team becomes short-handed. Coach doesn't have a single recruit of her own but all players appear to be buying in.

Last 4 games of the regular season, all against BU (at least as of the moment) may give a better gauge to their progress. They already have a short bench as Allen seems to be still out. I really hope Coach adds another big to the incoming class. I suspect the are still some talented kids out there who might fit the bill.

An NLI signing from the Irish national U18 team on March 17th? Gonzaga and St. Mary's MBB teams cultivated Australia as a recruiting ground and it worked out well for them.
