From the sports in which he has participated, it may be a plus for HC's olympic sports. When I attended HC, I always thought that anything outside of baseball, basketball, football, and m/w ice hockey was an intramural, club sport. There were athletes that were outliers participating in other sports, but time commitment was drastically different in comparison to the big 5. Lacrosse may have changed, but they were terrible when I was there. Lacrosse program, despite coaching turnover and some internal turmoil, is overall greatly improved since your senior year at HC, when the men's team might have been winless. And the Patriot League is a legit conference in lacrosse. I would add soccer to your list of D-I competitive sports. At least relative to the majority of our Olympic sports, the men's and women's teams are always in the mix in the PL. Never great but rarely bottom feeder. Women's hockey was playing a D3 schedule until a couple years ago (and winning a lot of games), now they are taking their lumps but competing admirably in Hockey East given how quick the transition was. But swimming, track, tennis, golf and a handful of others are still at the level where there's barely even recruiting going on -- maybe some of these women's teams get a handful of scholarships to help balance out football but that's it. Effectively walk-on teams, especially on the men's side. No knock intended on the athletes that got into HC completely on academic merit, tried out, made the team and put their hearts and souls into going up against DI competition for 4 years. But the standard of competitiveness at HC just isn't the same here is it is for the sports mentioned above.

It would be nice if he cared enough about average HC fans to sign up, but I agree that he would do so through an intermediary or with a more obscure name. Of course, he could learn some things from CROSSPORTS, but he might not like some of what he reads here.

I almost hate to mention this (almost), but will our new President's connection to Brown cause any problems for NAD - given his infamous reputation with some at that institution?

Perhaps with the new President's interest in food, Kimball will continue to experience a renaissance. (Or at least offer better options for students during COVD). On a more serious note, while the Olympic sports could always benefit from a strong voice in the administration, they do not bring in money or PR for the athletics department. More importantly, it is not the role of the President to be interfering with the athletics department, whether positive or negative (IMHO). Other than major decisions, I think the administration should be hands-off.

^ +1.
Also the BoT has much more voice in the athletics path than the Prez.

Yes, it was not overdone. Not much beyond what one might expect.

Did anybody listen to or watch the live stream of his introduction last evening? Perhaps of interest, 125 names identified at the start. Don't know whether all were actual applicants, or included suggested candidates. Was quickly winnowed to two dozen, then further pruned to seven, then two. If i heard right, there was a Jesuit who made the list in either the two dozen or seven groupings. IMO, from listening to the chair of the BoT, the provincial for the USA East region of the Society, had an out-size role in the selection process.

What I heard was that there were multiple Jesuits in the final 7. I also heard that the Jesuit Provincial encouraged an open process (ie. to consider lay candidates). Also, the selection of Mr. Rougeau was unanimous by both the Search Committee and the BOT.

In these situations final votes are often said to be unanimous even if preliminary votes weren't.

The new generation of academic leaders, like those in the past, must raise money. If my prayers are answered, one of his early meetings will be with Marcus Blossom If that is the case, and the questions asked are - Will the alums financially support athletics? What changes if any do you recommend? What is a reasonable timeframe for any change? What are the different scenarios for these changes and what impact might each have on funding? Who do I need to talk to in the sports world to make that happen? Who is the best sports advocate on the board? Who else should I place on the board? Which alums have the greatest impact on the board? And 40 plus years later tradition returns🏀🏈⚾️ and the💰💰💰💰 come to the treasury The rest of my emojis froze-didnt want to eliminate the other sports Early meeting with MB: Vincent: The budgets for each sport seem awfully low. Marcus: Well yes, compared to when we both were at BC. Vincent: OK, raise them to BC's level and we'll try that for five years. Also, I've never heard of some of these schools we play. Upgrade the schedules please.LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To correct what I said, from the subtitled replay, 125 names originally, winnowed to two dozen, then to seven. The seven included Jesuits (plural), Rick Patterson said "plural". Then to two.

Does anyone have any thoughts or insights on how this new President may impact athletics? I don’t think Biden will have any impact.
