I see the minor leagues schedules came out today. Is Polar Park ready ? if not, where is the team playing its home games ?

Why wouldn't they play at Fenway when the big Sox are away? A ticket, hot dog, a coke and a vaccine shot all for $25.

There's a difference between being able to host a game and being able to host a game in front of 5000 fans. As long as the field is ready they can have games without fans. No telling what percentage (if any) will be allowed in on April 13

No telling what percentage (if any) will be allowed in on April 13 I hope they have better luck when they test flush all the toilets at once than they did at Schaeffer Stadium in 1971. That stadium (later Foxborough Stadium and now the parking lot for Gillette Stadium) was built with all private money for $7 million and the plumbing failed when they tested it.

Seeing guys down from the bigs on rehabs is the only plus watching AAA over AA ball, as AA is where there the majority of the real MLB prospects are. More future BoSox players are in Portland than will be in Worc.

Even with fewer minor league teams ?

Yes.
Clubs are generally keeping their top 4 full-season minor league clubs.

More future BoSox players are in Portland than will be in Worc. Except for people in Maine and parts of New Hampshire, Worcester is a shorter drive than Portland. Manchester is not a bad place to see the visiting Portland AA Sea Dogs. But I do agree, in the 21st century, AA is better than AAA -------------------- The new minor league system is a step backwards. Basically taking professional baseball out of a bunch of communities. I don't think it was a bad thing that there were more places to see games. Might actually develop a fan base. There's something to be said for taking a little kid to the former Lowell Spinners, knowing the kid didn't have the attention span to hang for a full game. I could do that for about $5/ticket instead of $100/ ticket at Fenway knowing we might not make the whole game

I read the article that Woo Gray posted. It is definitely worth a few minutes of your day if, for no other reason, than because the author recognizes what I think a lot of us value about being baseball fans--the ability to quickly trace a lineage of players back to the legends of our youth.

Polar Park opening day tomorrow at 3:00. Game is in NESN, first of 50 televised games. Saw the field yesterday, it looks fantastic. Nice view of Holy Cross from the park. Assumption actually had a game there last week.

Assumption actually had a game there last week. Shocked that they will televise 50 games. Must be on NESN overflow channel. If the Boston Red Sox had a Monday off, NESN used to show the PawSox on Monday. Because of COVID (everything still goes back to COVID), minor league baseball is going to 6 game series instead of 3 game series. All games will be Tuesday-Sunday to cut down on travel. No more Mondays. Kind of hard to imagine NESN picking up a game if the parent club is playing. Maybe local access channel 3 that does some HC games with Kevin Shea will pick them up. (I have no idea what the current name of the Worcester local access channel is. I do know that it is no longer channel 3, but I have to call it something)

I caught a baseball game on 100.1 FM over the weekend, it turns out it was the WooSox on the road somewhere. Good luck to them. I used to listen to Legion baseball games on the radio as a kid, so maybe they will have a decent radio following although the media entertainment options have exploded in sixty years.🤔

The Worc taxpayers are the ones to "thank". $100M bill / 30 years = $3.3M per year Over-simplified math from someone with minimal tax knowledge: 70,000 housing units in Worcester (https://www.wrrb.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/worcester-by-the-numbers-housing-and-land-report-2013.pdf) 50% paying property taxes (no clue if this is accurate, was trying to under-estimate) =35,000 units paying property taxes For the sake of over-simplifying, assuming the entire bill is being paid by residential property tax on 50% of housing units (not true) $3.3M per year / 35,000 units = avg $95 per unit per year So for the cost of a trip to Pub 99 and a few Dunkin Donuts coffees per year, Worcester residents get a AAA baseball team, beautiful new stadium, re-developed downtown area, etc. etc. Not a bad deal.

I drove by Polar Park a few weeks ago. I found its exterior to be rather ugly and cheap looking. Its facade was steel girders, glass, and corrugated blue steel. It was nothing like the red brick retro ballpark designs that were first floated. Have however read that the interior gets good reviews. The parking garage that was supposed to provide the closest parking was delayed and it did not even appear to be yet under construction. Found it rather telling that fans are being told NOT to use the closest 290 highway exit at Kelley Square. This suggestion would seem to be a prevent action to help minimize traffic congestion on this stretch of Grafton Street to avoid the nightmare scenario that many had predicted.

They originally had a brick design for the front. I for the life of me can't understand why people care so much about what the outside of the stadium looks like. Is it not what is inside that matters the most. Plus it was put up quicker and saved some money.
People are just negative about everything here. Jordan Levy former mayor and WTAG radio host said one time "Worcester needs a whole lot of psychiatrists." People are never happy.
Also the City in the last few years has made apartments and housing out of almost every building they could. Adding thousands of apartments for people.
Why can't the city have a place for sporting events and entertainment that will bring in not just city people but from all the surrounding towns. Are we really trying to act like overtime the city spends money it is a great economic decision. For the people that don't want it, also don't go to a game or event there nobody needs to hear your complaining.
Worcester finally gets a beautiful stadium and I am excited. Not even a Red Sox fan.

NESN will be televising all of the WooSox home games. Most on their NESN Plus channel which is 760 in Worcester.
Hearing some events other than baseball in the works there this year. Still dealing with major construction zone down there but the park is very nice.

Glad the city of Worcester made a bold decision to move forward with this project. It’s better than lamenting down the road 40 years from now that we should have done something bold when we had the chance.
