I drove by Polar Park a few weeks ago. I found its exterior to be rather ugly and cheap looking. Its facade was steel girders, glass, and corrugated blue steel. It was nothing like the brick retro ballpark designs that were first floated. Have however read that the interior gets good reviews. The parking garage that was supposed to provide the closest parking was delayed and it did not even appear to be yet under construction. Found it rather telling that fans are being told not to use the closest 290 highway exit at Kelley Square. This suggestion would seem to be a prevent action to help minimize traffic congestion on this stretch of Grafton Street to avoid the nightmare scenario that many had predicted. The scorned lover who just can’t get over his ex leaving him for a far superior city & state. Sad.

They originally had a brick design for the front. I for the life of me can't understand why people care so much about what the outside of the stadium looks like. Is it not what is inside that matters the most. Plus it was put up quicker and saved some money. People are just negative about everything here. Jordan Levy former mayor and WTAG radio host said one time "Worcester needs a whole lot of psychiatrists." People are never happy. Also the City in the last few years has made apartments and housing out of almost every building they could. Adding thousands of apartments for people. Why can't the city have a place for sporting events and entertainment that will bring in not just city people but from all the surrounding towns. Are we really trying to act like overtime the city spends money it is a great economic decision. For the people that don't want it, also don't go to a game or event there nobody needs to hear your complaining. Worcester finally gets a beautiful stadium and I am excited. Not even a Red Sox fan. It is what is inside that matters the most. rfi is Debbie Downer on steriods. Someone once said that Worcester is a city still striving to be a town. Pretty accurate until now. Another great Jordan Levy line: "Worcester: we're working on it." Ed Augustus has turned out to be a great City Manager. He's smooth as silk without being slick.

^ Blue Moon, Silver Bullet, Yuengling, and Sam in the " Craft Corner"? Wut? Wachusett too, awful beer. Greater Good is nice to have on tap though. I'd hope to see Redemption Rock and Wormtown (though they're larger) join Greater Good among the Wocrester beers on tap.

I was in the beer business for three years and like to think I have a good palate and know something about good beer. In my opinion Yuengling is a truly great beer-absolutely outstanding.

Agree on Wachusett, and it's the Worcester Red Sox, NOT Westminster (some won't get this 16, but you will). Need Wormtown as well since it was the first legit brewery in Worcester in a generation.

Your entitled to your opinion on Yeungling KY, and I completely disagree, but it's NOT a "craft" beer by any stretch.

Good point--"craft" usually means it comes from a small brewer and Yuengling does not qualify there. The larger brewers do put out some excellent products, e.g. some of the Sam Adams seasonals are excellent--again to my palate.

I lived most of my life in Central Mass. I would be surprised if this team doesn't have attendance issues by 2031 as the shine on the ballpark wears off and the drop off in sports interest continues with the youth of today growing up into adults. This market has had problems keeping AHL hockey in the past, real arena football league, etc... Maybe I will be wrong but big shiny ballpark will look good for a few years and then people will move on.

In all fairness, Wachusett was the first legit brewery in Worcester County in a generation. Many, if not most, bars in the city had at least one Wachusett beer on tap. Has definitely been replaced by Wormtown as "the" local beer. I don't remember the name, but there was a brew pub on Main St near Lincoln Sq that had a horrible business plan and too much debt and went under fast. Later became Irish Times. Wachusett was using the brewing equipment at Irish Times for a while before they had their nice Westminster facility.

Main St. Brewing Co. is place that was in Irish Times. Lasted < 2 years. Circa '96-'97. Same owner as Irish Times.

Bought a couple of beers that cost just over $10. Didn't realize I got about $25 dollars in change. Knew right there they were doomed....

They were brewing different things in equal measure, but the average Joe has favorites. Lighter ales were always running out. There were times I was in there that all they had were porter and stout. Not everyone goes for that. They also went WAY over budget renovating the building. Unanticipated structural issues put them way behind the eight ball on time and money

I always preferred Bob Moynagh's for boozing downtown. Would always run into old HS classmates, good story telling, and Bob would always swing us Pioneers a few on the house.

Worcester cheerleaders can continue to shake their pom poms but I am not the only person that found the exterior to be pretty ugly: The ballpark really is so uglybillshaner.substack.com/p/the-ballpark-really-is-so-ugly
Excerpts:
Now anyway can we just talk for a second about how hideously ugly Polar Park is? Like how it looks like they went over to the train yard across the highway and stole a bunch of shipping containers and cut the sides off and threw the sides up on the building facade.
you have a park that is smaller and uglier than average and it’s the most expensive and that’s a title I’d really prefer the city not have.

but if fans are drinking their 8% ones, they might wake up the next morning in the stands. A pint of an 8% beer is like drinking two and two thirds cans of Bud. I try to impress on my kids the need to constantly watch that issue. Good news today is that I see a lot of young adults who are disciplined about taking Ubers when they are going to a bar.

^ Blue Moon, Silver Bullet, Yuengling, and Sam in the " Craft Corner"? Wut? No Wormtown? I don't know how much say Polar has in these things. Enough that this will be one of the very few ball parks in the country where you can't get a Coke or Pepsi. A Polar kid is recently married or at least engaged to a Wormtown kid so reasonable to think Polar would have a soft spot for Wormtown. In addition to the marriage, I think there is some other joint venture like a hard seltzer.
