It was a great win and it was awesome that Austin and Matt were able to make their final Hart appearance one of their most memorable ones. And I was impressed that our guys out-physicaled Army, a very tough bunch, in a rugged and ragged tilt. The refs were absolutely letting them play - and play hard - with minimal whistle blowing. I was astounded by the amount of contact that they just let go. Not that I’m opposed to this style, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a “contact/fouls called” ratio higher than today in any previous Holy Cross game. We’re these refs from another conference?

I did not think AB had another level of intensity in his tool kit, but after watching him this weekend I think he has ascended to the "Crazed" level. Reminds me a bit of AK34's play down the stretch of his career, where he put together a string of double doubles.

I'd love to see the same effort on Wednesday at BU. That would be a big step for the team and the future..

Going 4-5 against two decent teams BU and Army is a good job by this group, I pretty much discount the losses to Colgate as we are not close to their level. The two bad losses were to Lehigh, it would have been interesting to see how we would have faired against a normal schedule. Great weekend by Faw and Butler, they have had to persevere through a less than stable 4 years and have provided great leadership to a very inexperienced group. We have a big hole to fill on and off the court with their departure.

The league as a whole is having one of its better years. Sagarin has the PL ranked 16th among all conferences.

Pomeroy has it 21st. In any event, with the league having played so few OOC games, no ranking is at all reliable.

No mid-major/low-major conference has its own refs. They all ref in three or more leagues. Norm for the northeast is probably five leagues when the Ivy is operating, four this year. As for yesterday's refs, Evon Burroughs was the top one, by far. His most common league is the Big East but typically he does maybe five or six PL games a year. For some reason (maybe covid-related), he has been accepting less assignments this year. Matt Lavigne has only had 17 D1 assignments this year, but he has reffed multiple games in the NEC, CAA, AE, and PL. He has officiated four PL games, including an earlier HC game. The third ref, Tommy Deneen, does not get many D1 games, but has reffed a few games this year in AE, MAAC, and the PL. Looks like his only other PL assignment was a week ago when HC played Boston U. When a game has one big-time ref and two who do mostly D2/D3 games, you sometimes see strange reffing. You may see that either the two lesser refs defer to the big dog and let him make a lot of the foul calls or else they try to impress him by blowing the whistle constantly.

Regardless of the reason,Yesterday’s game was a pleasant diversion from so many games, high major as well, where the whistles dominate and totally distract from the flow of the game and needlessly limit some key players’ minutes.

Not sure how conference rankings involving the PL can be that meaningful this year, where most teams played 0 OOC opponents, and no one had the same exact conference schedule.

Massey's "combined" rank has HC at 15th.
