Interesting to again see the emphasis on Harvard being depleted. "Against the Crusaders, coach Tim Murphy sat three of his key offensive players: quarterback Joe Viviano ’17, running back Semar Smith ’18, and wide receiver/return specialist Justice Shelton-Mosley ’19. Presumably, this trio will be rested, ready, and—most important—healthy when the Crimson resumes Ivy play this coming Saturday at Princeton." Were they sat by the coach to be rested for Princeton? There was no other mention of the reason but I tend to doubt that. There was also a quote you would probably only see in an Ivy game commentary: "The highlight of the second half might have come when LaPolice was brought down by a Crusader defender named Andre Chevalier. LaPolice and Chevalier…parfait for a Godard movie." Did he go to Coaches School with Al Skinner? They seem to have concerned the market on excuse making after losses.

Did Murphy actually say anything about his team's injury woes as an excuse for losing the game? Is there a quote somewhere? Not sure where to place him in the pantheon of most disliked coaches.

Criminal the OOC skeds Murphy has played at Harvard.....he has had the talent to play William&Mary, Richmond, the service academies etc etc....but continues to play cupcakes (ourselves excluded of course ). He's not to blame solely....but he has done absolutely nothing to help FCS football in the New England area outside of the "Ivy bubble."

If Holy Cross had the same luxury, it'd be doing the same thing. Don't kid yourself ! BTW, what is H.C. trying to prove ?

Agree to disagree.....HC is at least trying to play/compete outside of the comfort-zone that is the PL/IL. Is it a fool's errand? Perhaps, but HC playing schools like BC, Navy and Syracuse (imo) brings both added exposure to the school and makes the program more exciting to follow for students/alumni/locals alike. Harvard being Harvard doesn't need to do this I know....but in insulating themselves they aren't doing themselves or New England college football any favors. If Harvard was to schedule BC, Vandy, Northwestern once a year, it would give added exposure to FCS football in New England and by extension...help Holy Cross.

Your logic is absolutely correct about the difference in the stature of the brands:...."Harvard being Harvard doesn't need to do this I know...." And H.C. being H.C., ( thinks it ) has to ( try to ) do this.

I'll bet Harvard's players would much rather play Army than Georgetown....,,,,

Harvard is an excellent football team at our level. I enjoyed beating them. I don't think they are under any obligation to save New England college football or FCS football. I hope they do well against all their future opponents this year to enhance the value of our victory.

Harvard refused to play HC as their first game, complaining that we were more broken in after a few games, although we had been almost always with injuries to key players in previous years. Ironic that the problem for them this year is their own injuries. Maybe they should go back to playing us as their opening game again? And for the record, our injuries were more numerous and significant, particularly with our roster limit. Nonetheless, HC outplayed, outworked, and outsmarted Harvard in every aspect of the football game on Saturday. HC has been on the other side of that equation in past seasons so no reason to complain or make excuses on either side. This is why the game is played.

As I left Fitton [before I heard about their injuries] I thought what might Harvard's reaction be to us beating them with 2nd string players.

The nice thing is that HC beat them on both (o & d) lines of scrimmage. Maybe their other skill players would have made a couple of 1-1 plays to turn the tide in their favor, maybe not.
Time to move on and it's better for HC if H wins a bunch more games.

The game was played on the field. Holy Cross has made no excuses all year for their injury issues. They just keep playing. Harvard put their team on the field and lost with that team. Take it like men and move on. It was GREAT day to be a Crusader!!!
