Yes, I’m taking about PLAYOFFS!
If someone could lay out simply the scenarios impacting whether we make the proposed 8-team playoff, I would greatly appreciate it. And please don’t link to anything from the PL because I have no interest in trying to figure it out myself. Just we get in if . . .

Yup! BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Patriot League has announced expanded fields for the 2021 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Men's and Women's Basketball Championships. The men's championship field will now include all 10 member institutions while the women's field will include the nine available basketball programs.

Interesting that Pen Fed Credit Union is the sponsor. That institution bought McGraw-Hill Fed Credit union, where I had an account for many years. I believe Pen Fed primarily serves military personnel, so I guess we know who they will be rooting for.

NCAA granted a waiver, eliminating the 12-game minimum. So the games tentatively schedule for midweek are eliminated, and the tournament will start earlier than planned.

Part of my obsession with the play-offs was my past harping on Coach Brown going a woeful 1-4 in the PL quarterfinals. I vocally said that was unacceptable. The only thing worse than stinking in the low bar of the quarterfinals is not even making the quarterfinals. I know rebuilding is a process and things have looked better this week, but not making the quarterfinals two years in a row would be pretty horrible

We seldom have an issue on this board where all posters agree. Perhaps this is one of those rare occasions. Do we all agree that the move to include all teams in the playoffs was a good one? Make a post if you disagree

My range of motion doesn't allow me to pat myself on the back, but I suggested this in some post days ago. HC has big Mo (Momentum) heading in. I hope they play the weekend games against Colgate and keep improving.

And the Colgate games are still on...and at Colgate?
If so, even if reasonably ready, please leave Gates in Worcester!

Now I have a new question. Which seed are we going to be? Hopefully playing a hard schedule will prepare us to beat up on someone from the lesser divisions.

Speaking of lesser, where’s the BU guy who used to talk about taking our lunch money?

Well now that we’re all in, Don’t see why we couldn’t play Colgate. Might be a total momentum killer now that I think about it but extra reps don’t hurt

Well now that we’re all in, Don’t see why we couldn’t play Colgate. Might be a total momentum killer now that I think about it but extra reps don’t hurt Two more games against a really good team that would essentially be exhibitions for us cannot hurt. Great experience for the young guys and want to see Austin and Matt play as many games in purple as possible.

So nothing gained by playing Colgate this weekend, unless HC could secure a win, and improve its percentage.
The seeding is based on W-L percentage, all PL games. HC has already played 16 PL games, no other team has played more than 14.

In his post-game talk, Coach Jones seemed to hint that one or more of his seniors will return next season...but it won't be confirmed until after the season. The coach paid high praise to AB, JM, and MF. He also said several times that HC just physically beat BU. High praise indeed.

Wouldn't mind the Saturday game...but not Sunday. Better to gain a day of rest and/or preparation for Wednesday, 2/3.

If HC lost both games to Colgate, it would likely make HC the 10th seed, with a 0.278 W-L percentage. HC currently is by itself at 0.3125
If HC didn't play Colgate, and BostU lost both of its games against Army, I believe HC would move ahead of BostU because of head-to-head. BostU would now also have played 16 conference games.
If AU, currently the 10th seed at 0.286 percentage, were to win one of its two games against Bucknell, it would no longer be the 10th seed.
If Lehigh were to lose both games against Lafayette, its W-L percentage would drop to 0.286.
If Navy were to win both games, it would claim the #1 seed if Colgate did not play HC. Every incentive if HC plAys Colgate for Colgate NOT to rest its starters. The game(s) potentially are more meaningful to Colgate than HC.

Wonder if they will do it by percentage or wins?
I think Navy and Colagte are the 2 best teams so it will be interesting if anyone upsets them.
I thought Lafayette would be in that group but they not beat anybody other than Loyola since January 10th when they beat Bucknell.

I thought Lafayette would be in that group but they not beat anybody other than Loyola since January 10th when they beat Bucknell. "The three mini-conference winners will still be seeded from one through three based on their overall Patriot League winning percentage. The remaining teams in the men’s and women’s fields will now be seeded based on their overall Patriot League winning percentage. From the PL site.

Here is what the current standings look like, and who each team plays this weekend:
1 Colgate . . . 11 - 1 .917 Two games vs HC 2 Navy . . . . 10 - 1 .909 Two games vs Loyola 3 Lafayette . . . 7 - 5 .583 Two games vs Lehigh . . . . . . Army . . . . 6 - 6 .500 Two games vs Boston U . Bucknell . . . 4 - 4 .500 Two games vs American . Boston U . . . 5 - 9 .357 Two games vs Army . Lehigh . . . 4 - 8 .333 Two games vs Lafayette . Loyola . . . 4 - 8 .333 Two games vs Navy . Holy Cross . . . 5 - 11 .313 Two games vs Colgate . American . . . 2 - 5 .286 Two games vs Bucknell
Except for the top three places, all seeds are now determined by PL winning pct. Note that Army currently has the tiebreaker over Bucknell by virtue of its one win over Navy.
