I spent a few minutes at a local high school match with the Harvard coach a couple years ago. She made it very clear in as positive a way as possible that there were no Massachusetts recruits worth pursuing. I’ve seen a couple of points of CT HS volleyball here and there. Don’t think we have too many D1 players either. My kids' school is a regular state champion and has produced three Gatorade players of the year in CT in volleyball in the last 11 years. None played D1 in college athough one played D1 hoops. One girl about a decade ago, who was not one of the players of the year, did play at Bryant. I am not sure why this is a regional thing. The sport is played everywhere, there are out of season club programs, and the entry cost is not terribly high. Do kids in California start playing when they are 8?

In California it is a 12 month sport. Beach volleyball is huge there (and is growing in NJ - for summer months).

There are only so many athletic girls in CT. 2. Travel basketball, soccer and now lax start in 4th grade or earlier. 3. There are very few opportunities to play competitive volleyball in CT before high school. 4. Kids in CT have almost no exposure to volleyball outside of maybe the Olympics every 4 years so very few young kids dream of becoming a great volleyball player. I have a whole team of 4th graders dreaming of playing for Geno one day.

AFAIK, HC women's volleyball has not yet listed commitments for the class entering this fall. From a club website in Florida, two players on their roster, from two different high schools, have committed. www.mytribevolleyball.com/page/show/284967-tribe-commitmentsAnother commitment is a 6-0 middle blocker from New Braunfels High (Texas) Going through an extensive NLI list, nobody, and I mean nobody, from the Northeast was shown as signing.

I like to read about our recruits in all sports. In recent years (maybe longer) HC's volleyball recruits have all seemed to have impressive high school careers (including, notably, academically), and yet the wins seem to be hard to come by. I can't tell if the program is on the upswing or whether it's stuck in neutral. I have to say being able to watch the matches live is great; these players are exceptional athletes.

He turns 67 this month. CD (Associate Head Coach Chris Dailey) is only 61 and appears impeccably fit. Perhaps your team can play for her.🙂

Watching Women’s Volleyball this weekend, I noticed that regardless of conference, Patriot, SoCon, Horizon, Ohio Valley, Missouri Valley, all of the players and participants wore face masks, as face masks, and not as chin masks. Wearing masks have not adversely affected the performance of the games that I watched.
I have watched and attended a number of volleyball games live. The agility of the athletes, especially their eye-hand coordination is astounding. At the highest level of D1, the game requires amazing reaction time.
Over the years of watching collegiate sports, one of my best days was September 15, 2007. In the afternoon I watch HC beat Harvard for Homecoming at Fitton, 31-28,( Randolph to Harrison with 19 seconds remaining for the win), then we drove to New Haven to watch #2 Stanford beat #3 Penn State in a Five Game nail biting set in the evening. Both teams that I have a rooting interest won that day. Seeing the ball move around Payne Whitney was incredible. I still cannot get over how both teams moved horizontally and vertically.

Good volleyball is great to watch! Probably my favorite collegiate "female" sport for the athletic ability. (Men's volleyball is played at the college level but very few schools sponsor it)

our team has 9 seniors on a roster totaling 17 - i.e. only 8 in the other three classes - some mention here about incoming recruits and I guess we can look forward to a large class that I hope raises the bar in the PL for us.

the team plays Colgate in a home and home starting tonight in Hamilton - the Raiders (and Army) are the class of the PL so I don't expect wins but if we're competitive that will be good sign.

Of the 5 players mentioned in the Colgate Game Summary, 4 were Seniors and one was a Junior. Hope the cupboard is not bare behind them.

I assume you're only talking about the teams HC is scheduled to play. American is THE class of the PL and has been for many years. They were picked for 1st in the preseason poll and have won seven straight regular season titles. Since AU joined the league, I think there are only two seasons that they didn't finish 1st.

you're correct abt AU - those 3 programs are the class of the league - I think we beat AU recently and it was the first time in history Colgate was 24-8 in '19 and split with AU - It's tough for other programs to crack those 3 at the top, and we've historically have been fighting to avoid the cellar.

Over the past five years, both Navy and Lehigh have had top three league finishes on two occasions. The one constant is that American always finishes first. All of the others are usually significantly worse. Colgate was very good last year, but the two previous years they were one win above .500 both times - fourth or fifth place.

Colgate wiped us out today in 3 lopsided sets - I guess their coach made more adjustments than we did after Friday’s close match

AWP is traditionally very strong in volleyball so this win is high quality - let's see if the ladies can keep it up at West Point tmro afternoon

The Sunday pattern continued today as we lost 3-0 in three lopsided sets - still a very good split against AWP
